You guys shouldn't make fun of this topic. Gays deserve the same rights as all cats prefer whiskers.

I have ADD (without the hyper element). It's not what you think.

It's not that there's a constant narrative in my head that's always changing subject. Rather, instead of one train of thought in my head I often have five or more simultaneously.

As such, writing is easy for me, because I can pay attention to grammar and form while still thinking about what needs to be said and thinking ahead to where the conversation is going.

Speaking, however, I often get quite confused and have difficultly listening to someone for more than three or so sentences if they just keep talking. If they don't give me two or three sentences at a time and pause till I respond (either a verbal response, nodding, or what have you), then I start thinking ahead into the conversation and off onto side-tracks. I may come back with a response that to me is related to what is being discussed, but is so far down the thought-progression of the conversation that to everyone else my remark seems to have no relevance to the conversation.

I think I have a little form of ADD/ADHD because I have very hard time consentrate when someone talks long... I might even completelty forget what he/she was talking minute ago even I thought I was listening closely... + I get bloody annoyed if someone talks long time and I can't say anything or someone starts explaining something but immediatly pauses for longer than 3 seconds... Man I want to rip that persons head off...

Great post. I have ADHD (with the hyper element )
I have the same behaviors that you pointed out, but with a slightly different speaking difficulty. Whenever I talk, there's always a few different ways that I could say a word or a sentance and I often confuse them or pause midword. If, for example, I want to say "I'm not able to connect to the internet" I'll probably trip over the words 'not able' and may start to say 'unable', or before I finish the sentence I'll want to start the next sentence. Makes me sound like a total idiot sometimes.

edit: was anyone else treated differently in school because of ADD? I was treated like some sort of severe mental condition despite my high grades. Teachers constantly asked if I needed more time on tests, wanted me to attend special ed meetings, etc.

I have ADHD, I think it's great, it's like being pilld up most the time lol.

It does have it's bad sides though, I find the concentration thing isn't that bad, I tend to only learn about things I'm iintersted in, so when I do learn I pick them up instantly, it does make some other aspects of life hard too. But i wouldn't change it.

Have you ever laid in bed at night, tired as hell, and as much as your body wants to sleep your brain won't SHUT OFF??

ADD is like that ALL the time. It's annoying.

I think that's more indicative of a formal thought disorder, like schizophrenia [thumbup]

thats for the H in ADHD, ADD arent hyper.

I got ADD 1 of worst things u can have, trouble sleeping can't stop thinking no off button.
lots will have dyslexia, u fail a lot in life with ADD, and don't expect people to feel with u they just call u lazy.

life is hell with ADD/ADHD believe me, getting bored very fast and when i do i loose my concentration and then sh*t happens(like loosing your job/GF)

Its a handicap that no one believes u have it, its easier to call someone lazy.
