Need a good ISP fast

ive had telewest for 8 years with no problems now virgin media have taken over its nothing but a nightmare. slow downloads with a 20mb line[thumbdown] . need a good ISP prefer cable min 4mb line and needs to be cheap with no caps.

Poowssnople 06-15-2007 12:23 AM

Good isp with no caps is hard to come by, especially cheap.

No caps generally means they allow torrent *****s which means crappy service [thumbup]

There has to be some around i mean BT has a 5gb cap http://discussworldissues.com/forums...es/tongue1.gif come on that is only a few game demos. im paying £37 a month now for a 20mb line

alicewong 06-15-2007 01:46 AM

I take it your not a Sky customer then? They do 16mb unlimited for £10 a month for customers or 8mb for £5 a month with a 40gb cap or 8mb with a 2gb cap for free.

Depends on your area, and if you sign up, lmk and we'll both get £30 [thumbup]

I pay :

£15 a month for Sky (2 mixes)
£5 a month for 8mb/40gb
£11 a month for a BT line
£5 a month for unlimited 24/7 local/national + 10 International

So £36 a month for Sky, Internet, Phone and all my calls.

http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ilies/sad1.gif no ive got all my services with virgin, TV/Phone/broadband. BT want me to pay £120 to connect me to a phone line what a joke. looks like ive got to suffer virgin for the time being unless there is another way round this?

alicewong 06-15-2007 01:58 AM

Damn, BT wanted to charge me £120 too because they said I had no line, that was until I pointed out to the engineer that I had a dial tone and had been getting junk calls since we moved in a week before, he just rolled his eyes and they connected me for free.

Acalsenunse 06-15-2007 05:46 AM

Um yeh these is no other cable providers...

So you need a BT line to sign up to an adsl company. Good list of good adsl companys are here: http://dslzoneuk.co.uk/isp_ratings.php

But if i was you, i'd just ring virgin up and complain? And see if they are upgrading your UBR?

Poowssnople 06-15-2007 03:57 PM

I left virgin a month ago the service is truely woeful [thumbdown]

Your going to need a fone line if ya wanna change and most good adsl isps have caps.

Id rather have a 40-50 gig cap on a stable fast line than nlimited on a shoddy slow one even if it is "upto 10mb" or whatever.

[thumbup] i did give them a call and said ive had enough and was going to go to sky http://discussworldissues.com/forums...es/tongue1.gif then hung up the phone, 15 minutes later i got a call and was told there is a fault with my services and they would fix it and give me 6 months free service if i stay with them [yes] . so it looks like im staying put after all at least for the next 6 months anyway..

Not in your country but I have to praise my ISP here. Send them email asking will they be raising my speed and 2 mins later they had raised my 2/1 to 3/1. [thumbup]

Shootohoist 06-15-2007 10:59 PM

I have only recently signed up with them. Found that from free sites my speeds are shockingly bad at times ( gamershell ) but on my paid subscription for Fileplanet I can max it out as long as there is a UK server. Torrents are not too shabby either. Personally I think the crap speeds are due to network upgrades. Believe me their service is about a million times better than BT. http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ies/laugh1.gif
