Product Key Problem

I bought my computer like a year ago and have never reinstalled windows before. So today I reinstall win xp pro and now while I am trying to reactivate it I am getting this
error:

According to our records, the number of times you can activate Windows with this product key has been exceeded. Please enter a diff product key...

WTF? I have never used the product key before!

Do I call the computer company I bought the computer from?

Just call the toll-free MS number supplied in the process and activate it through via phone. Worked for me.
