had a really crap day at work so i need to vent a little
been at my current job 18 months, supporting 2 products for 9 months but still on same pay as when i started. originally was told 9 months ago by my team leader 9 months ago he would try for more money for me, same was said in a meeting 2 months ago when i found out the guy i work with is moving to training and i would be the main support for 1 product. anyway couple of weeks ago an engineers job came up locally so i went for it not really thinking i would hear back, got an interview and they offered me the assistants position. didn't say no as i wanted to find out more details about it first before i decided, which i did not find out untill yesterday. at which point i asked to have a word with my team leader, the plan being to explain the situation with him and tell him what was happening. anyway they guy i work with knew all about this and told the dublin office where 2 other support people work, and also the devleopment team and they had a word with the support director for me about more money. i enjoy what i do but the pay is a joke really, the other job has better long term prospects really as its more hardware stuff than software which i do know but i like what i do. i know i am an import part of the team, development have said so and they even went to the company owner about this who said to speak to the support director. basically because of meetings i did not get to speak to my team leader till late today, still at work currently donig an update at the moment. pay wise he said i should have aksed him, but in my eyes he should be the one getting back to me on this my main point is i could be support 1 product and still getting paid the same amount i am now with less work, but i am not. today has just really hacked me off cause i know i am important and dublin have said so, but all because of stupid meetings and fact my boss thinks 2 months is not long enough to wait for a pay rise |

Its a shame that companies dont realise how valuable some of their staff are, and dont make an effort to keep good staff , whether it be in salary, or encouragement.
I had the same situation at a company i worked for, and although our branch was really profitable, the excuse was that on a national scale, we could not have a pay rise , as other branches did not make money. after a while , I was headhunted by another company, and although it didnt work out, my first company phoned me 2 years later, by which time, I was earning £4K more than I was on, when I left. I told them that I wanted a grand more than that to come back, which they accepted.. so I got an increase of £5K in 2 years.. The stupid thing is, is that my colleagues were on the same money, and were told the same old stuff that I was before I left!! It seems that the only way to get a decent pay increase nowadays , is to move around companies!!!? |

well as i say niall the developer wants me to stay, and i would given the right incentive
i am having a chat with my team leader tomorrow, but i am not sure what angle to approach it from i was thinking of going in with the the only reason i am listening to you is i enjoy my job and the people i work with, the other job has better long term prospects and currently i do not see any here. if i leave now it leaves big gaps in 2 products, but whether they are bright enough to see that or just be stubborn i don't know if they say they will wait and see i don't know what i will do, it might end in a snap i quit decision at that point. or i get the feeling going to niall may have some motivational action, but tbh i am not sure if i would take it from then or not after this |

At the end of the day, the reason you go to work, is for one reason..to earn money...
If they are not paying what you are worth, and someone else will , then its not a difficult decision to make. I think the days of loyalty at work, both from an employer, and employee view, is long gone Think of No.1 , no-one else will |

Dude that sucks. If you are needing the money, go for other job. Though if you don't really need the money, I would try and push harder to get a raise at your current job. If you really love what you are currently doing, I would try and stay for as long as I can. I would just keep bugging them until something happens.
At my work, I have been there for 8 months or so and want a promotion. I like were I work, but I work harder and know a lot more then most of the people who work there. There has been talks of raises, so I would get excited and then a month or two later get pissed off because nothing came. This happened a few times. Now for the past month I have changed my tactics. I have been on top of them about it, asking everyday sometimes twice to see what is up and how the progress is going. Now it looks like I am going to end up being a manager at one of the new stores. Though if this doesn't go through and I don't become the manager or even get a raise at my current store, this is when I am going to leave. If being on top of them about it everyday for a month doesn't do anything, then nothing will. |

By all means keep talking to them, but make sure you continue to follow up on the other job.
If the current company is serious, play hardball - ask for a lot more money and when they knock it down somewhat, tell them you want it backdated as, if you're worth it now, you were worth it X months ago. You should be aware, in your position, that it is common for increased pay/better conditions to be purely a short term issue and most employees who stay will move to another position within 6 months. |

well i have got things sorted, i am staying put for the time being
basically i hav an appriasal date now and my pay review is going through, also they are putting us on a bonus scheme so i could get up to an extra £100 a month plus my pay rise which would be good plus i got the feeling the see me having a future where i am now which is good |
