There is a new version of superman 2 out now though. The Richard Donner Cut. I was told it's almost like a new film. So maybe that will tie in better with superman returns.

some more reading on it.

It does tie in better with Superman returns. It explains more on the "transformation" and exactly how he got his powers back; although Superman 3 and 4 were not made with Richard Donner's cut in mind, so you have to just take the answers out of Donner's cut, then carry on with the original released story line.

In Richard Donner's cut, it explains more that the container Superman goes in irradiates him with the Krypton Sun's rays; which removed his powers (as he only gets power from the earth's type of sun). This left him as a Kryptonian but without the super powers. Anyone wanting to know how on earth he got his powers back, which was left out in the originally released superman 2 - the powers were from his father; which is where the "The son becomes the father, and the father becomes the son" phrase comes from, used a few times in Superman Returns.

Oh and his boy having Asthma etc, I think thats pretty obvious. He is half Kryptonian and half human - his powers are kryptonian but his asthma etc are from his human traits.

wow, ok this explains a great deal of things, thanks langy...guess ill have to watch it myself to get the rest, but one questions still remains...every single article and show ive seen/read on superman suggests that kryptonians cant have kids with humans....maybe I'm just looking too much into it...

doolarsva 01-12-2006 09:48 PM

Superman in itself is just a character from the destroyed planet krypton, sent to earth and has super powers from our sun. Thats the only building blocks that is required for a superman story. Technicals like "cant have children with humans" (which I havent seen myself tbh) doesnt need to be included; as it wasnt in The New Adventures of Superman, where Lois and Clark did have a baby at the end.

He has had children in different story arcs in the comics, once with Lois Lane (Laura Kent was the child's name) although a few times in other story arcs it is suggested that Kryptonian DNA is so complex that having children with easy earth women would be impossible. Just one of those things the comic book writers can play around with.

bestformaldress23 01-13-2006 02:49 AM

Yea, with alot of all the "super hero" people like superman, fantastic 4, x-men, and so on have so many different story arcs that people get easily confused with so many different conflicting story arcs. I'm only more interested in x-men and there are so many different story arcs with things being 1 way in one arc and another in a 2nd arc.

The asthma could also be the kid's version of clark kent wearing glasses? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/biggrin1.gif But yes of course, it does make sense otherwise this to be part of his human traits.

I don't like that whole kid with Lois bit at all either, but supposedly this movie is set after Superman II, where Superman transformed himself into a human and had sex with Lois, thoroughly impregnating her. Then he turned himself back to Superman to combat General Zod and all that.

Now, about the kid's asthma etc...beats me. It's probably a little contrivance on the filmakers part to make it more of an "ohmygod" moment when they reveal the kid as his son.

technically didnt he only "give up" his powers, though retaining his kryptonian dna ? havent seem the movie in ages...but thats what happened from what I recall....didnt "convert" to a human....rather just lost his powers...

ElisasAUG 11-30-2006 11:46 AM

I have no clue either, but sometimes its better to not try to understand. Its probably something gay like superman's son being half-human half-kryptonian, he got somes powers but not all of them, like he can be sick/get kill but still have superhuman strenght.

There are many ways to see it I guess, but at this level of detail any logical analysis would break down...
