what is your line attenuation and noise margin? should be in the router options somewhere Uptime: 0 days, 1:34:10 Modulation: G.992.1 Annex A Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 8,096 Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 3.13 / 30.85 Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.5 Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 14.5 / 31.0 SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 20.0 / 9.0 Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / TSTC Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0 Loss of Link (Remote): 0 Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 50 / 0 FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 29,200 CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 58 HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 53 |

U mean this ? - What makes you think otherwise? Try downloading this and see what speed you get: http://fuller.zen.co.uk/test/ |

I have the exact same thing going on. I just got the email the other day from my ISP saying I was being upgraded, and my router confirms a connection of 7000 or so, but my download speed is a fairly steady 250 or so. I did the speed test, and it shows as ever so slightly underneath the norm for a 2mb connection, which I was on previously.
I figured they spent the 10 days seeing how your router/modem synced at the various speeds, then opened the floodgates, or something. |

Screenie We're about 2 miles from our exchange and generally get around 4.5Mb/s max, although it is very server dependant and contention can be an issue... |

It's probably the servers you are downloading from. There are a LOT of overloaded servers out there. Fileplanet, fileshack and the rest are all at 100% capacity almost all of the time. I'm on 6mb cable myself and usually only get 250k-400k download at any given time during the peak hours. I mean sure if I'm downloading at 1-2am then I'll get a better rate but most of the time it's around 250-400.
So unless you are downloading from a huge pipe that not many people are using then what you are getting for download speed doesn't seem inaccurate. |

Try out this file
http://www.malamber.org/gaw/celica/C...al%20Vol.2.pdf it's a 132meg file on my server that has an OC3 connection (155mb/s) with very little traffic so you should be able to see some good numbers. |

I hit 500kb/s on http://fuller.zen.co.uk/test/ so if you really had 8mb you should be seeing at least that... then again i am on bulldog so i dunno if i have a better connection to that than BT lines.

OK. Some silly sod (ie ME!
![]() Upto 8Mbit. Takes the piss! My maximum d/l speed as of 21:30 BST today is no more than 30kB/sec with either that zen thing or a relatively quiet Gamershell server. My router says this : Connection Speed 4256 kbps 448 kbps Line Attenuation 55 db 15.5 db Noise Margin 4 db 22 db And, is it normal that in the 3 1/4 hrs I have been online, I have sent 110,000 packets, but only received 67,000? Anyone help? Did have cable before I moved, so i'm new to ADSL, but this service is poor to say the least. I know this is classed as a "busy" time, but FFS! ![]() Are there any settings that will optimise my connection? And stay away from Virgin. "No monthly contract" actually reads, "if you terminate your connection within 12 months, you pay £50 service charge"! Bollox |

Your ISP gives you a username and password to authenticate with their RADIUS server.
Depending on what you put after the @ depicts which equipment you connect to. To work out whether or not is congestion at the exchange, or ISP level by connecting to the BT wholesale test account and running a couple of benchmarks you can help to see where the bottlenecks are happening. For instance, if on maxdsl using your account you struggle to get above 2Mbps or comparable speeds, yet on the speedtester account you get full speed then it suggest's your isps is the bottleneck. If the speeds are the same, then it's congestion on your local exchange. Also, go to samknows.com and check your exchange for congestion / known issues. Not sure if it's changed much, but when I was stuck doing support for dsl, BT would only recognise there speedtest. If you can prove it's bad using their speedtest, then it stands a good chance you'll be able to get something sorted. Although I'm not sure on the levels of accpectance for max dsl, 2Mbps and above mayway be good enough. |
