It can be loud and the room is really cold. Make sure your gown is covering your man candy. You will more than likely get really bored as you have to stay perfectly still in the machine for a long period of time. The noise the machine makes is kind of a humming sound. Last time I had an MRI I fell asleep within 3 minutes. The scans took over 30 minutes.

On House M.D, the sound the MRI machine makes is a *thump thump thump thump* and some more humming. Then the Doctors in the glass room talk about their sex life to each other as if it's casual. Davedudes, as they say, standard procedure. Nothing to worry about. Just keep in mind although you can't move for the testing purposes (they will have to re-do poor quality images), you don't have to feel confined knowing if you must you can stop at any time. |

i had one done abt 20+ years ago when i was in Jr high. From what i remember it really isn't too confined (there was a good foot or two above my head, though they do strap you in so you can't move. I am not one of those people who is too bothered by being confined so i didn't find it too bad. It is loud though...kinda a jackhammer noise when it is running.
Anyways, if confined spaces really are you Achilles heel, you might look into the open mri, which was developed especially for fat people and those who hate confined areas. Costs more, though. http://www.insighthealth.com/services.asp?mid=2 on a side note, in college my mates girlfriends dad was rich because he was one of the key players who developed the MRI. |

Yes,I've had two MRI Brain Scan's,due too a lesion(injury/damage),first was over decade ago due too start of headaches, second was more recent too check any change, but MRI's are the most simplistic technique ever ,you just lie back on cushion table with pillow, wait between 10-15 minutes or so,listen too music if you choose too feel more at ease. You will hear low level drumming noise's during the scan, also the operator talk's too you intermittently during each scan process, too check up on you, they might also very rarely inject you with a dye sometimes's,foreseeing hard too see area's,(once with me),that's about it.Cheer's.

Anyone had a MRI scan? only a couple hundred or so[rofl] there's absolutely nothing to them at all. it's not that confined of a space either. basically you just lay there and the thing revolves and makes lots of noise. that's about it. if they're using contrast (which they probably are) you get an IV and you get a funky metal taste in your mouth for about 30 seconds, but that's pretty much it.
sorry to hear you've been diagnosed w/ epilepsy. well wishes. ![]() |

I've had a couple on my knee. It's very noisy (like someone hammering metal next to your head) but you don't feel anything at all.
The most difficult part for me was not moving for 10-15 mins. Make sure you find a comfortable position before you start and try to relax as much as you can without moving, or lactic acid will start to build up in your muscles which might become uncomfortable. That said, it's probably one of the safest and most painless procedures you can have in a hospital. |
