Default Have some money to spend - what shall I get?
This website may not be the best place for this since the most logical answer is hookers and blow.

I'd pop for the Galaxy and the tablet. Combined, not that much cost but will probably provide great utility and make you feel like you've pampered yourself.
This will also save you money for your next mistake.

Was leaning toward Galaxy SII and the Nexus 7 - that'd be $800 at most combined. That's not so bad.
I believe that's what I said after the most logical answer, of course.

@ most logical answer .

Instead of Nexus 7 go for the Asus Transformer Infinity 700TF with docking station. 24 hours of battery life

Am going over to Best Buy right now to see if they are in stock locally without having to go through Amazon.

Inifinity is ice cream sandwich with announced upgadability to jellybean.

I'd say "hookers and blow," but those paltry sums wouldn't last that long on a bender.

I recommend a good laptop and a cheap tablet. On average my laptop:tablet use is around 20:1, unless I'm flying somewhere which I rarely do.

A much more useful toy that I recently acquired is a QNAP NAS with two 2TB drives in a JBOD configuration

Well, not exactly have some money to spend, but money that was allocated for something else just came open. For those who aren't my Facebook friends, me and my fiance mutually broke up a week and half ago (having to do with lack of just about any common interests, and the fact she has a ton of growing up to do [though I'd imagine she'd have a different point of view, but she's just wrong]).

So, because her parents weren't on board (and have no money) and mine weren't on board (because I converted to Christianity), I was going to burden much of the cost on credit cards - including $1,300 for the place, $1000(ish) for the food, and $3,000(ish) for the Honeymoon.

Thankfully that money, which would have to had been paid within 3 months, is freed up, so I had some ideas (blowing the money on myself for a change - another contention on my part - seems like a great way to go).

- An out of contract Samsung Galaxy S III (I have an HTC Thunderbolt which is trying its best not to hold a signal) - $550 to $600
- Nexus 7 tablet (I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, but its old in tooth already) - $200
- A new laptop, preferably a Samsung Series 9 (I know its a lot of Samsungs here) - $1400

Though I don't want to spend all of what I'd be blowing on a potential wedding (due to still being a co-signer on her apartment - yeah, I'm screwed on that for 6 months more), some of it being spent on myself would be quite nice I think.
Hey Immy, genuinely sorry to hear about your split, but it clearly sounds like it was for the best and you obviously gave it your best shot!

Sorry for sounding all boring and fuddy-duddy here, but surely the point here is that you're not freeing up any cash - but simply avoiding putting yourself into debt on credit cards!? Surely the best thing to do is pat yourself on the back for avoiding an expensive mistake and only get the thing you need (which sounds like the phone) without necessarily going into the red for it?

Sounds like you're just trying to make yourself feel better by licking your wounds with tech, which is an understandable kind of rebound, but a rebound all the same...

Hang out with some mates you probably haven't seen for a while because of being in a relationship and just have some fun!

I do have a Samsung Galaxy Tab and yeah, I find that I likely would use it more if I had a keyboard. Maybe laptop is better to go... but that touchscreen is always nice.

I got a keyboard for my tablet, but it's basically a netbook keyboard (i.e. crap).

Talking about politics and such isn't really that important is it? But if you guys aren't happy together I guess it wasn't meant to be. I'm sorry to hear it and I pray for you.
It is when its important to you and your mate couldn't care less . Though that was just one thing - the lack of common interests caused friction. Better to end it now than when already married, no?

Imran: no real advice as to what to do with the money, but you may remember, many many moons ago (8 years, holy ****!), I went through something similar just before I moved to Columbus, re: splitting up just before the wedding. If you want to talk about that at all, just let me know.

Apropos of nothing, I will say that I got crazy laid in the year after that before I met Galnemer...

Being divorced, I'll say, for myself, that if the only problems were lack of common interest I would like to still be married. But that's just me. But I had worse problems than that.

I was somewhat shocked when I saw it had happened on your wall, given that you seemed so happy together for quite a while.

I would be wary of buying any durable goods with the money I viewed as "saved" from the breakup. It would have the potential to serve as a reminder every time you used it perhaps. Kinda like if you carried the engagement ring around with you or something like that. (Though maybe this is a good thing. Next time a 20 yo gives you her number you will remember the potential problems there while entering it into your contacts lists?)

Net and I have a ton of differences. The biggest is religion, but for me it's not an issue at all and for her doesn't seem to be a deal breaker. The maturity level definitely is in her favor though in our case...

Aren't you a lawyer with 5+ years of experience? Why are you so poor?
