Just wondering, ever since I came back around November it seems very slow and not alot going on in the hardware threads etc... and then I did some checking...
I'm on overclockers forum as well... and couldn't believe the difference in stats... hence why it's so quiet around here nowadays? It's the last two stats that tell the story to me... Overclockers: Threads: 853,204, Posts: 15,131,228, Members: 92,069, Active Members: 13,345 Futuremark: Threads: 152,931, Posts: 1,626,470, Members: 180,048, Active Members: 999 Why has FM got so few active posting members now in relation to a shops forum? Seem very very odd?!?! Wonder what it was around 2003-2005 when I was on all the time? |

I believe some will stay here no matter what happens. Others have found various other forums that they tend to stay on now. Others like me have so many forums it is just hard to visit and post in all of them these days. Between work and having time to just browse and read it is now hard to manage time for everything. Thanks

Aye I noteced the same ten threads on the front for a few days in a row as no one was posting much.
Its a shame the advice here was always top. And I met russ18uk when I bought his X800XT PE off him like 6 years ago! (I think it was him!) I also think im banned from overclockers forum, teehee. EDIT: A reason I dont frequent forums much is becasue I am sick of having to defend myself against pedants and trolls. |

the forums are definitely more inactive... part of the reason is MadOnion group is OG... Old school... gaming today isn't as complex/story driven/ground breaking as it was... so many have left. I barely play games anymore, I still play the old games... UT99, NoX, insane, system shock 2, giants citizen kabuto, and so on...

I guess benchmarking isn't as fun as it used to be. I came here originally for improving my 3D Mark 2000 score in late 2000. I used to run it several times a week.
![]() In the process I found a great forum offering excellent tech advice and help, it was cool being able to help those on the other side of the globe with issues I had encountered in the past. In a way, I guess Google and other search engines gave taken some of that away from here. Some may remember the huge Unreal II info thread I made in 2001. lol |

Believe it or not I try to check this site at least a few times a week ever since I signed up, seen the old members go and new members arrive and old members come back again.
I don't think it's the users fault though, as previously said it's the whole scene that has changed, overclocking and benchmarking just isn't as much fun as it was. Mobile tech is now the new enthusiast domain. |

I don't think the forums are dying, but I think it's likely that a highly adherent cohort of individuals upon whom FM made an impression some years ago (read: "heyday") linger, and whilst that cohort gets slightly older and stays tried-and-true, the younger people are experiencing rapid shifts in the way communication is handled online, thus the perception of reduced forum activity?
It's just a passing thought I had; but it seems that younger gamers/enthusiasts/modders/what-have-you may find it more natural or easier to communicate through means other than online forums, with those means being trendy these days (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and all of the other social media outlets that I can hardly keep up with). Maybe that's it? Maybe the target audience for FM isn't shrinking per se, but it may be that the forums aren't the primary way they get their Futuremark "experience?" Not sure. It could also be that there are so many outlets for a similar target audience that it's heavily divided amongst them. I'm still excited about that Shattered Horizon space-sim-ish trailer that I saw a while back, myself. |
