Default Tourist in New York - realistic spending?
I'm sure you'll all whinge that I'm asking real life questions on a tech forum but what is a realistic figure for a tourist to spend per day in New York? Including breakfast, lunch and dinner, sightseeing and a few drinks in the evening? Not including accommodation. I'm sure I've asked this before but I can't find the thread.

Depending on dinner and drinks, I would say a bare minimum of $100 per day. And that's a very BARE minimum. $150 is a lot more realistic.

Oh that's cool. I generally work on £100 per day on holiday (about $160) so I figured £150 a day for NY but then I saw how much the hotels are and thought everything else might be three times the price!

No. Based on my experience in London, you should expect to pay about equivalent prices in $ as you did in £, so it would actually be cheaper, except for some areas of manhattan where you may actually pay equivalent values. Of course, if you go to a 4* restaurant, you may pay more than that for lunch, so keep that in mind.

Let me know when you're coming. Maybe we can get a beer.

Should be the start of December depending on budget. I'm trying to fit in New York, Denver and Vegas on the same trip so things are a bit tight really.

You have to remember that DM is an alcoholic.

I spend way more than that per day when I go to Manhattan and I live less than 100 miles away. If you save on food (eat pizza lunches, etc) you will be able to hit the sub-200 mark.

I'm not an alcoholic. Alcoholics go to meetings.

What's a realistic will quote?

Don't be a fool, wrap your tool. No need for treating recurrent Chlamydia.

A shot of anti-biotics in the ass at the free clinic every morning versus getting charged an additional hour to finish the night before. It is a matter of economics, my friend.

I'd say $150-$200 per day was pretty average when i was there. New York has so much to offer though that you might spend a little more if you let it get away from you.

As for bars, I'd scope out a few ideas ahead of time either through friends or yelp, etc. That can get pricey quick if you don't hit the right spots

Firstly, regarding Famiglia, it's one of the nastiest pizzas ever. I believe Jon Stewart has something to say about it:

Secondly, nice itinerary you've got there. The Met and Applebees - oy vey.

Obviously, Jon Stewart is a diehard lover of the pizza at Uno Grill.
