Cite! We had student protests, no racial riots. And I did read what you said. |

I am suggesting that LA is still prone to rioting, you started talking about things NYPD have done. I don't see what the possible relevance is.
My postulate is that if there is a high profile police brutality case in LA you could still see rioting. Apparently it nearly kicked off in Oakland after a cop was let off shooting a kid on BART, but it wasn't that severe in the end. And Oakland still isn't LA. |

Really, I'm doing it. I'm calling Provost Harrison out on his comment a third time. I want to know how having a Muslim minority makes European countries have Sharia and enforced Hijab when very few Islamic countries enforce hijab as is and have never enforced it in any modern context. (2) Do you understand there is a time difference between Europe and the Americas and that when you were "calling me out" I was fast asleep. But anyway, my "racist European ignorance" that you are referring to. Well the recent voting for the BNP has come about from some reaction to the established political parties not being seen to represent the views of a large section of the population, hence this protest vote. And yeah, there is always a certain element of reaction to large waves of immigration and problems achieving integration and controlling the flow of immigration, which to be fair, I think the Labour government has been particularly poor at achieving. Such a large influx has provided some tension in the UK, and throughout Europe for that matter as you can see. But the BNP passed their peak a bit ago and their share of the vote has fallen considerably in the last general election. Oh, and on a side note, I've seen how you Americans treat and talk to Mexicans. You have no position to lecture me or fellow Europeans on racism. |

And has that suddenly got something to do with whether there are any racial tensions in LA or whether there is the possibility of any rioting? Would a more affluent area be less likely to riot? I think so. |

Some facts on LA that MikeH apparently isn't aware of, all courtesy Wikipedia:
Black or African American: 9.9% (this one surprised me. I didn't realize there were so few Blacks in LA. Median household income: $48,610 Mean household income: $76,557 For comparison, here's Philly: Black or African American: 43.5% The median income for a household in the city was $30,746, and the median income for a family was $37,036. The per capita income for the city was $16,509. About 18.4% of families and 22.9% of the population were below the poverty line, Which city do you think would be more likely to have race riots? The one with 8% Black population or 43%? How about the one with the 22.9% poverty rate or the city with a median household income of nearly $50K? Well, MikeH? Would it surprise you that neither city has had a race riot in decades? |

Britain and France have tiny muder rates compared to LA or Philly, but you are claiming we're constantly in a state of racist hate riots. So if that were true wouldn't it disprove your theory? |
