Default Annoying Car Rattle
So my car is pretty old, a 1987 Accord LX Sedan. I added some new speakers and a stereo system to make my listening experience better, but even the slightest of bass will RATTLE my front doors, usually on the left side(near the closing and some on the bottom side. It's frustrating because I took out the door panel and tightened every screw, added Dynamat around the speakers, and still have this rattling problem.

Anyone got a clue? Could it be the weather-strip(it's sort of torn, but I added some foam material to fill them in and it didn't do squat).

Maybe the linkages inside the door for the handle and locks? Maybe a wire/connector for power window switches etc?

Let me guess, the sound system cost more than what you paid for the car, right?

It's just because it's an old car, there's not much you can do about it I think unless were to rip apart the whole door itself and find out.

The whole sound system was about $350 ish, but yeah the car itself is probably no more than $1000 in value. And I actually DID take out the whole door panel out, but the problem seems to be INSIDE the metal where the windows go down. It's very hard to reach inside there and I am pretty clueless how to inspect inside there because according to the car manual, there is no way to do so.

Yeah, that's what I meant when I said tear the whole door apart. Unfortunately I've never done this so I really have no idea how to do it. I know it's possible though, because car mechanics got to have some way of repairing the window & locks inside somehow.

I'd recommend removing the speakers, however the problem may be in the window channel/guide - this can come loose and/or break it's mounting point(s).
Have a good look - sometimes they're in the door jam, under the latch mechanism, sometimes behind the door trim.

Yeah I'm going to take out the door latch and see if anything is loose from there.. but otherwise taking out the regulator seems impossible with the limited space.

well they got it in there somehow didnt they?

my guess is that some spot welds have either rusted or popped apart and when the bass hits its causing it to rattle, but im not sure what kind of rattle you are hearing.

take the door panel off, but put the speaker in and get it to rattle, start taking crap off or putting your hands in different places to feel for the vibrations or once you take something off and it stops, then viola theres your problem

I don't know if 87 accords are similar to my 91 interior wise, but I had an annoing rattle too and it turned out to be the storage pocket on the door, the plastic isn't really joined and will rattle like crazy.

Turns out the rattle was from the center glass run channel.. I put a screwdriver on it out of curiousity and the buzzing sound stopped! Had to take it out, cleaned it with denatured alcolhol, and added a piece of Dynamat on the mounting hole and put it back, extra tightened. The problem is now gone.. thanks for feedback, thing was driving me nuts. [rofl]

Just out of curiosity, what stereo did you put in your car?
