Default The Offical Random Golf Facts thread
The ball spends 1/2000th of a second on the clubface. That means it would take a scratch handicap golfer almost 28 rounds of even par golf to have the ball be on the clubface for one second!

Have a cool random fact about the game of golf? Post it up in here.

That would make sense, but wouldn't it spend a little more time on the clubface when putting? It seems the extremely slow ss would cause this to happen.

A slice is usually amplified by aiming left (for a right handed golfer) because the golfer already believes he/she is going to slice before taking the shot.

Golf was banned in Scotland for the latter half of the 15th Century. It was felt to be too much of a distraction from compulsory military training.

It's because they are aligned to the left which promotes a swing that moves in that direction which amplifies their across the ball move causing the side spin causing the slice, actually.

To that point of sidespin...

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS SIDE SPIN – it is merely back spin on an axis and the more the axis tilts, the more the ball flight curves.

Hart, you're going to discourage a lot of people from posting because they'll be scared of you proving them wrong haha!

You obviously haven't seen me play. That's when I hook the ball

Your chance of making 2 Ace's during a round is 1 in 67 million. You are over twice as likely to accomplish this feat as hit the powerball (1 in 170 million)

Kim Jong Il, the deceased dictator of North Korea, shot 11 hole in ones the first time he played golf.

As a side note, apparently he is also capable of winning olympic gold medals after death.
