Default Shipping Your Golf Bag via FedEx
With airline pricing for multiple bags being about $35 each way, I wanted to inquire with those here about shipping golf clubs instead of carrying them and checking them. Questions:

Who has done it?
What was the total cost?
Who did you use....FedEx or another website or service?
Was it worth it in your mind?

Any information would be appreciated!

Good topic Nate! I've been researching this as well for my upcoming trip to Europe. Still kind of up in the air as too if I'm going to let the airlines possibly loose my sticks.......

I have not done it, but would GUESS that the price would be close to that of the airlines.

Good topic, I know JB has used this option on a cross country trip or two. I will be considering this option for the upcoming Morgan Cup if it's more cost effective.

I know Mary C has shipped her clubs often and there is at least one other thread on here talking about it... I am not very good at searching for threads but I would suggest asking Mary directly or maybe someone like Smallville can find the other thread for you.

Nate,

I shipped mine from NC to OR so it may be substantially longer than where you're going but I'll share my experience.

I used UPS and shipped my cart bag full of my 14 normal clubs plus the 4-AW of RBZ irons added in. They had to build a box big enough to hold the clubs securely, and I let them pack it as well. I'll say they did an excellent job at packing each club and securing them in the box, but it cost a little extra. I also insured them for $2000, so I had to pay extra for the insurance. It cost me about $100, but I had so many bags already on the plane that was my best option.

I will probably do it going back to NC in the fall just from the peace of mind I had. They were packed and secured very well, and arrived on time and in the exact condition I sent them off in. Hope that helps.

From what I remember it was 18ish for them to professionally pack it plus the shipping to the are you need it which can get pretty expensive with a bag like mine

Who has done it? Me

What was the total cost? $35 each way from IL to FL.

Who did you use....FedEx or another website or service? UPS Store

Was it worth it in your mind? Not really. I had to take the time to pack up the box and take them to the UPS store. Then do the same thing the day before I left to go home. It's really no cheaper and I'd rather hoof the bag to the counter.

I suppose it would be more convenient if you printed a lable and had them pick up the box, but I still don't think it's any cheaper. Delta was $25 each way for my bag to the outing.

If you click the link I posted above they have sample rates. $17.99 for packaging plus $27.31 from New York to Orlando as an example for 3 day shipping. Just saw Hawk's response above. According to the website they pack it for you.

Yeah that's what I thought, isn't that kind of expensive? But I guess that if you wanted to rent clubs, shipping would still be cheaper

The $17.99 is only if you want them to pack it for you. If you pack it yourself, there is no extra charge.

I used UPS to ship my clubs to Edgewood - Tahoe. The UPS store had a box that was made for shipping cubs in your bag and it only cost $5 for the box and they packed them for me. I think it cost me $30 to ship there and they arrived in perfect condition.
Cost the same to ship them home and the guys in Tahoe packed them for me right back in the box they came in so no additional expense there.

Let me give you some more facts:

Flying to San Diego from DFW
Won't fly SW as no direct flights to San Diego
Flying with 3 kids under the age of 6 as well......one less bag to carry
Willing to put in the time before the trip and at the end to take to a location for shipping

Nate since you have other things to worry about rather than someone just getting to an outing or something, it might make sense for you to ship.
