Hey guys. Just wanted to start this thread for some of you to share some of the things that you've been told on numerous occasions or heard from pros that you have taken so closely to heart that it has affected your game.
The thought came to me when I noticed that a lot of people I play golf with are absolutely and irreversibly stuck on the mindset that a longer iron absolutely cannot be hit by them. Hybrids fill some peoples bag all the way up to 5i and sometimes even 6i (SGI sets). Now I have no doubts that these can help slower swingers get the ball up in the air, but what about those of you who have the power and the consistency to hit a long iron well but just choose not to because a hybrid is "so easy to hit it's almost like cheating"? I haven't found a hybrid in the market today that will ever replace a 3i for me and it's solely based on numbers. My dispersion is better (by a ridiculous margin) and my distance isn't too different. I've always believed that if I can put a swing on at least a 6i then I can put a swing on any iron and nobody has been able to convince me otherwise. I refuse to be nervous standing over a 3i and trust it as much as any other. I believe that this is because I haven't fed in to the "long irons are hard to hit" beliefs. Now feel free to comment on my views, but remember this thread is about myths or common beliefs affecting your game. Not about my beliefs in the long irons. Tempo, timing, tapping. Edit: alright, I'll admit that a 1i scares me to death, but do they even make those any more? |
