Ever Have a "Short Game" Round?

I played today and shot a 77. On the back nine I had 11 putts. That wasn't do to any fantastic putting, though I did make some nice putts, but more to do with pitching it and chipping it close.

My short game is usually the best part of my game, but occasionally I have one of those rounds where it really shines. Today was one of those days. Otherwise it probably would have been a mid-80s round.

Do any of you ever have what I call a "short game" round where your short game just really stands out and saves you beaucoup strokes?

Yes, I love having a round where you just chip and putt phenomenally. It makes you feel better about yourself http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...es/biggrin.png

I have had rounds like that for sure. It felt like I couldn't miss with a wedge in my hand. I love those times.

I love those rounds, you almost feel like a pro and that no shot is impossible around the greens. That round is usually followed by the opposite kind of round, so I enjoy iy while I can!

idertedype 05-25-2011 07:47 PM

I do enjoy those rounds....although they do not happen NEARLY often enough.

SigNeewfoew 05-25-2011 07:53 PM

Sounds like I have them less than you guys, but I do have them. I lean more on my length and short iron accuracy. It's pretty rare I chip well enought to only have 11 putts, but I love it when it happens. Nice round Sean.

I love it when I have a round like that. I really like practicing my short game for days when I can't hit any greens. I had a bunch of nice up and downs at PGA National this past weekend.

I would call mine more of a long iron round, had one those days where the driver was really wayward but my second shots were dead on. I even hit a couple blind from adjacent fairways that stopped inside one putt range. Wish I could do that more often, had the best round in years that day.

Stoottnoiciek 05-25-2011 09:13 PM

Yes, I have had those rounds. In fact, on my local par 31 course, good scores depend on great chipping and short game.

Now if I could just have good 'short game' rounds combined with good 'driving' rounds.

fgjhfgjh 05-25-2011 09:17 PM

I usually call those 'good' rounds. My GIR % is probably the weakest part of my game. If I'm hot around the greens I can still score well.

I know this one, I had what I would consider a short game round last night as my score was based on me scrambling for pars most of the time. I miss my fair share of greens so most of the time I have to rely on chiping and putting for pars and bogeys.

My problem is I hate chipping at the range from the mats so don't really get much practice in other than when I am actually playing

Sean, on the rare occasion that I break 80, it's always been my short game that shined that day! On days when I have to make a short shot early in the round and knock it stiff...it just seems to flow from there. The confidence of the short game can take so much pressure off the rest of your roung that everything just starts working well!!

LOve it when you miss tons of greens but get up and down from everywhere...very satisfactory in my book.

I'd just like to start hitting more greens Tadashi!

Yes I have and right when I needed it too. Playing with 3 strangers who were way more skilled than I. Hardest part was keeping a straight face through it all.

Qdkczrdi 05-26-2011 02:39 AM

Yes, I have had a few of those rounds, but like others have said they aren't as often as I'd like. This is why I focus my practice on my short game; it's getting better but still needs work.
