I'm right handed but play golf left handed. First time I swung a club I tried to swing both a righty and a lefty club and the lefty swing just felt much more natural so I stuck with that. Judging from the state of my putting I might want to consider putting right handed though...

I'm left handed and the only thing I do right handed is golf. My first set when I was a kid was a hand me down righty set, so that's how I learned. I can't hit a ball left handed to save my life now but stole a putter from my buddies mini-golf course and I can putt left handed rather well.

I've thought about getting a lefty putter or I'd pull the trigger on a M6 if I could find a good deal on one

On the tour: Doesn't Notah Begay putt from both sides? Left handed for left to right putts and right handed for right to left putts...Don't know what he does for straight putts.... And there was a pro (can't remember his name) who putted long putts from one side and short putts from the other...
I remember that. Something about right to left putts (for a right hander) being easier than left to right. And opposite for leftys. I think it had something to to do with fanning the putter and leaving the ball on the low side. Should ask the Pro in the Ask the pro section he's good with that stuff.

We also have a guy at our course that plays right handed and putts left handed. I read in Golf Digest one time where chipping left handed will help cure the chunks/skulls because the left handed side does not yet know the right side swing faults. Interesting huh. Try it some time if you have access to a left handed wedge.....

I am right handed, play golf left handed. My 14 year old son, who is left handed, plays golf from the right side (pun intended). When we are at range, I will use his clubs to hit shots and work on my tempo. I've got a long way to go before I can play like Shawn Clement, a Canadian teaching pro who is scratch from each side (shawnclementgolf.com). That's impressive!!

I'm right handed but golf and play hockey left.

Not sure if anyone has seen this but a friend of mine, more of an occasional golfer, uses Right Handed clubs but his right hand is on top. Sooo...he basically swings a backhand. The motion is rather funny to watch, his backswing is awkward and follow through is released. He does get good contact and yardage. I've tried to get him to try and correct it but he's stubborn.

I would think this close after 4th of July there would be a lot of "Lefty's" out there for a short time, haha.

Never read the GD article but I have tried that once, only because I found a right-handed wedge on the course and hit it a few times before turning it in; I just thought it was a lucky accident that it worked well.

Default "Switch-Hitting" in Golf
Was watching a little bit of some celebrity golf event on NBC Sunday afternoon with Wayne Gretzky, Drew Brees, Mark Wahlberg, and some lady. Watching Mark Wahlberg play I noticed something different: he shoots left-handed, but putts right-handed. Anyone else ever see or hear about anybody "switch-hitting" in golf, and is this more common than one might think?

I think its more common. I mean Phil is RH but plays LH. You dont see it much on the tours really, but we have two guys in our weekly group that play RH and putt LH.

I wouldn't classify Phil as a "switch-hitter" because he plays all his clubs left-handed (and probably uses left-handed balls too haha).

Watching Marky Mark play was just the first time I've ever seen that (or maybe just the first time I noticed it?). I guess it's more common than I thought.

This is very funny timing. I had the tv on with the OPEN replay and Phil was hitting a shot backwards out of the edge of the rough, just as I read this topic, lol. I played with a guy last week who bats, eats and almost every thing else righty, but golfs lefty. He said he's tried to switch but just never felt right, (no pun intended).

I have done it because I shoot right in golf and left in hockey, and it helped me straighten some things out. It really looks different putting from the other side of the ball.

Also, the super at my course plays right, putts left too

I'm left handed, but I play golf right handed. Cos that's how I was taught, I guess.

Played 2 seasons putting left handed. My putting stroke is so much straighter left handed, but distance control was a problem.

Played with a guy last weekend who is the same, but still putts left handed. Has done for 18 years.

I can think of at least two pros, Blaine McCallister and Mac O'Grady who were righties who putted lefty. And in my regular 4some at my club I play with 2 brothers who do the same. With them it was necessity as they shared a set of right handed clubs but their Dad was a southpaw and the only putter they had left handed.
