Default What has been the hardest club for you to master?
Since you started playing, what has been the hardest thing for you to master in your game (excluding the mental game)? I'm voting iron shots for me because that's where I've been the most inconsistent.

Great topic! It has always been the tee shot for me KB. As the clubs get longer, I have always struggled with them. I have good touch and feel, so I can always find a way to get it done with irons and wedges in my hand, even after a bad shot, but off the tee was and will be the hardest shot for me. When I am teeing off well, I score well. It is also why I dont change drivers as much as a lot of people here despite access to them.

I voted for the driver kelly. Up until about 18 months ago, I never kept a driver in the bag much. I was way too inconsistent with it and I realized very quickly that it was absolutely ruining golf rounds for me. I suspect that my weakness with the driver for so long, is what's made me be such a consistent and better golfer with my irons. I had to depend on them a lot. In fact, I was researching adjustable drivers about 18 months ago, and that's what led me to THP. Kind of funny how hard I've worked on becoming more fluent with a driver. I can't imagine not having one in the bag now.

It would be the hybrid for me. Mostly because I was late to the game in using them and still don't have the one I bought a couple of years ago figured out. The rest of my stuff I have a real good idea what I can do on any shot, the hybrid is still a wildcard for me.

I am on the driver boat to. It just seems as if that club is hot or cold. Just like JB said my scores drastically improve when I am driving well. If it is off that day, I usually just trying to save a bogey on every hole rather than go after birdies.

I voted for driver as well. I havent carried on in my bag for almost 5 years. Although I must admit I have not spend much time working on my tee shots, I have just became so comfortable hitting an iron or hybrid off the tee. I do however plan on putting in some serious driver work this summer. I have an R5 from my cousin that he is willing to donate while I work on it. Hopefully by next season I will have a perminant spot for one. But up until this point I have been way too inconsistant. Slices and hooks alike. High balls and duffs. Just cant figure it out. But I must say I have become almost deadly with my irons t times since they are my only source at the moment.

Hands down its the Driver for me. I have a problem with the longer club. Fairway wood on down I can handle, but the Driver kills me.

I voted for the Driver as well , same as JB , as it being the longest club in the bag I seem to have trouble getting it back to square . As now they are are 2-3 inches longer then what was standard a few years back .
I used to love my driver many years ago when the were actually made of wood and shorter , I still have my Ping Laminated Maple wood with a graphite shaft that I never missed a fairway with , but that all changed when they went metal and longer .
And my putter is the next in line for giving me fits .

I voted the driver because the 5" between my ears was not a choice, I seriously think the mental game holds me back and am now reading a book to try and help that aspect of the game.

i voted for the hybrid too.. i can never 'swing easy' enough during the round with it. On the range i get into a groove and its perfect, but the combo of real golf + hybrid + adrenaline = bad hybrid shots

While I wouldn't say I've "mastered" any part of my game having been playing such a short time. I'd say the putter has been the biggest challenge for me, I feel like I've made great progress with all aspects of my game. But the flat stick still frustrates me!

Me too DD but I figured everyone would vote for that so I didn't include it in the poll.

KB it's my 3 iron, I have always had an issue...it prompted me to purchase a 22 degree hybrid for those long, high soft shots into the greens on long par three. But then that was the only shot I could make with that club so I had to pull the 3 out of retirement and learn to it. I use it on windy days when I need a low stinger that travel some distance. Still can't hit a high shot with it.

For me it's the fairway wood, I've always wanted a safe go to club from the tee I could use for placement but I just can't seem to hit a 3w with any kind of consistency.

Great post Kelly, for me it's always been my driver. I can hit the ball a mile but its not usually straight. I've never been a great putter but I've gotten to the point where I am pretty consistent. The Driver just kills me though, and I always find myself using it when I shouldn't be.

I play a small draw with every club (except the putter) but every hybrid that I have tried, I hook!

Great question Kelly! For me, it's my irons that I struggle the most with. I am trying to get my swing working for me with my irons. Just can't seem to get it right.
