Default Hole-in-One Today...Sort of
My son and I went to our practice facility today after he got out of school. We went to the range and then the short course (the regulation course isn't open). The average length of the holes on the short course is around 73 yards. On #2, a 69 yard par three, I borrowed my son's 60º wedge, hit a very high shot, it landed on the green, bounced once, and rolled into the hole.

The irony was his shot ended up about 4.5 feet from the hole and I said, "How am I going to top that?"

The hole-in-one wasn't on a regulation course but...?

I would definitely count it. Like others have said it went into the hole in one shot, in my book that is as official as it gets.

I hate to sound like debby downer here, but I would have a tough time personally counting it on a "course" that you could hardly consider a course.

65 yard hole? I know holing it from that distance is still very tough to do but 65 yards off the tee? For a hole in one? With a LW?

Like I said, personally, I wouldn't count it.

Save your "first" one for a real course on a real par 3.

Totally disagree. I have played some extremely hard courses and on one occasion they had a 91 yard hole that was an island. If I had holed it out, regardless of the club used, I would have counted it.

By definition a hole in one is making the ball go in the hole in one shot. This was achieved and in my mind, you get the glory and the bar tab that goes along with it. Enjoy it DefCon, you deserve it.

Nike. You know that if you were playing with your buddies and one of them hit that shot you'd expect a free beer or two after your round.
