Default Head Scratchers
If I'm in most parking lots and am able to pull through to a parking spot - I will. It makes it easier to pull out when I leave. The golf course parking lot is the exception because I need room to get my clubs back into my trunk and someone may have pulled in behind me while I'm playing. However, I notice many people don't seem to think ahead and have a tight squeeze getting their clubs in. The lack of foresight amazes me. Anyone else notice this or any other unexplainable behavior on the course or in the parking lot?

Gasman - You still don't have room to stand between the two vehicles so how does having a truck help?

I also drive a truck, but keep my clubs in a crossbed truck box, so I need access to the rear bumper to climb into the bed. Not too long ago, I return from playing to find some idiot in a classic car convertible has pulled up so his front bumper is within an inch of touching my rear bumper. I just climbed up on his hood and gained access to my truck. Did the same thing when I got back down. I am just sorry they don't still allow steel spikes.

I usually don't park behind a pull-through at the golf course, but sometimes I play a 9-hole muni with a small parking lot and it can't be helped. If there's a car with a trunk, I just pull in but try to leave plenty of room for that person to get to the trunk. I try to avoid parking behind SUVs (they have swing out doors) and trucks (they have dropdown tailgates) since they need even more room. That and one of those trucks might belong to C-Tech.

Never had an issue with this one, since I haven't been to a course here that has parking where I can pull through if I wanted.

The one that's always confused me is people that insist on backing into their parking spot wherever they are. What's the point to that?

I do that. If I can park against a curb I'll back in. I don't back into spots at Wally World in the middle of the lot.

At the course I always try to park against the curb so I can back in and don't have to worry about someone blocking my tailgate but at the muni I usually play there is not pull through parking. At my company outing I pulled through the lot and had someone park behind me and it was hard to get the bags into the car since I was driving my wifes car and she has an SUV with a swing out door.

My truck is kind of big, so I park where it's easiest to get out (*parking in the shade is a lot more valuable than being close, IMO)

The truck is a 4-door, and I put my clubs either in the passenger seat, or laid across the back seat. I figure if I'm going to walk 6 miles on a golf course, what's another 200 out to the truck?

Actually there is a valid reason to back into a parking spot assuming it is at a right angle to the driving lanes. When you back into your spot you are backing into a controlled area and then can pull forward into the uncontrolled area (driving lane). This is actually part of the “Smith System” of driving.

Some drivers do that because it would facilitate a quick jump-start, or an easy tow. A bit pessimistic, but I know of people who do that!

A colleague told me about a college friend of his, who didn't have a working battery, but a working alternator: He always parked on a downhill slope so he could get his car going!

I knew a guy who did that as well, but his issue was the starter. Hated riding with him, the damn push starts sucked while he popped the clutch.

I like others have a truck so it does not matter how I park. I do like to be able to just pull straight out,as opposed to backing out of parking place. Especially in those "concrete" covered parking tombs

I am always surprised when I travel in Asia because EVERYONE backs in. I can't understand it, but 99% of the time people back in. Cars makers have accommodated by adding back-up cameras to aid in this type of parking.

Here everyone pulls in. One reason could be your parking tomb theory. Maybe they all feel the same way because of the reduced space often we are parking in concrete covered parking.

I notice people circling the lot to find a close parking spot at the gym. I can only assume these are the same people.

I always see women driving their kids to the bus stop on their way to the gym. Some of the kids would benefit from walking there.

I always park down near the driving range, hit a few balls and then walk to the clubhouse to get on the single's list. It is far from the first tee, but what the heck, I am walking the course anyway. Like someone said, I am about to walk 6 miles, so why would I care about 200 more yards.

My wife is handicapped and we have one of those hang up things. She doesn't understand why I won't use it when she isn't with me. I told her I don't think that is right, I am able bodied and there are people who need those parking spaces.

Good for you. And, actually the tag is assigned to the person, not the car. If you parked in a handicapped spot, w/o your wife, and then got out of the vehicle, did a few jumping jacks, pushups and situps, and then jogged into the store, a not so friendly police officer may decide to give you a ticket.

My stepdad had a handicap tag in his truck. When I would visit my mom and drive her around, she would tell me to park in the hdcp spot. My repy to her was "I not handicapped and you aren't either."
