Alvin and the Chipmunks on the Big Screen Source 20th Century Fox, ComingSoon.net Fox 2000 Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox Animation and Bagdasarian Productions will produce a live-action/computer-generated event motion picture of Alvin and the Chipmunks, it was announced today by Chris Meledandri, President of Twentieth Century Fox Animation; Elizabeth Gabler, President of Fox 2000 Pictures; Ross Bagdasarian, Jr.; and Janice Karman. Fox is currently looking for a top comedy writer and director, and expects to attract an A-list comic actor for the role of Dave Seville, the Chipmunks' "dad." Chipmunks Alvin, Simon and Theodore will be computer generated. Producers are Ross Bagdasarian, Jr., and Janice Karman. Mr. Bagdasarian's father, the late Ross Bagdasarian, Sr., created Alvin and the Chipmunks in 1958. The squeaky-voiced trio and Dave Seville made recording, broadcasting and merchandising history, selling 43 million albums (winning several Grammys in the process), starring in their own animated primetime series, numerous primetime specials, and number one network Saturday Morning shows seen in over 100 countries in 40 languages. "I am thrilled to join Fox in turning 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' into an event 'tentpole' picture," said Ross Bagdasarian, Jr. "'Alvin' has three generations of fans, who can expect an exciting new experience in the big-screen version. The movie will merge the celebrated history and tradition of our beloved characters with a new comic sensibility and edge. This is an exciting time for The Chipmunks and this movie adds wonderfully to that excitement." Janice Karman, president of Bagdasarian Production, added: "It's great to see the characters Ross' dad created almost 50 years ago continue to be presented in so many new ways. This movie is an exciting new adventure for the boys." Commented Chris Meledandri and Elizabeth Gabler: "We are very excited to be working with Ross and Janice on the live-action feature debut of 'Alvin and the Chipmunks'. We have loved these characters since childhood and with today's advances in digital animation, the Chipmunks will be brought to life in a way never before possible." -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The Rock & Karl Urban to Star in Doom Source: Variety, Hollywood Reporter, ComingSoon.net Universal Pictures is in talks with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for a role in video game adaptation Doom, while Karl Urban ("The Lord of the Rings" movies, The Bourne Supremacy, The Chronicles of Riddick) has been cast as John Grimm, the leader of a special ops team. When dealing with alien demons, Grimm is forced to cross paths with the organization responsible for his parents' deaths. In the game, the story is set at a Mars space station, where an aerospace conglom is conducting secret experiments when something unleashes a demonic force that threatens to overtake the facility. The futuristic action-adventure, based on id Software's and Activision's "Doom 3" game, will be directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak (Cradle 2 the Grave) and was written by Dave Callaham. Doom is scheduled to start principal photography in mid-October for an August 5, 2005 release date. Johnson is also attached to star in director John Woo's adaptation of Midway Games' popular game, Spy-Hunter, for Universal. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Should be interesting to see how the Alvin & the Chipmunks movie will be done. Wonder if they'll still use the original cast of voices for the movie? Who knows... This should be very awesome. I'm a huge Doom fan and I think Karl Urban is perfect for the role of John Grimm. Urban was extremely awesome in the Lord Of The Rings series and especially in Bourne Supremacy and Chronicles of Riddick. Should be a very promising movie. |

This was just a matter of time, after Doom 3 the Doom movie would finally get off the ground. Doom the movie, could be great, or like most Hollywood movies, could be utterly terrible. Probally the latter
![]() As for the Rock, I can't say he's much of an actor, but its not like he's got the main role, so I'm not really bothered. Peace JENOVA [ September 17, 2004, 10:33 AM: Message edited by: Jenova ] |
