Tombstone I have heard is very good, haven't seen it myself.
High Noon! They MADE us watch that at school for PSE, it was better than I expected and to do a movie iN "real-time" was a great idea. It was a very clever idea, the ending was horrible though...completely ruined it. I have seen The Good the Bad and the Ugly and loved it, what an amazing film. I only got into Westerns rcently after the Spaghetti Western theme in Kill Bill really interested me. Of course the one Western I had seen and LOVED before was...The Magnificent Seven. Not any of the crappy sequels, the original one. Man What a movie! It came on last week and I watched it AGAIN! It's just so brilliant, sad that many of the cast, including my favourite of the characters James Coburn who played Britt, are no longer with us. I have Once Upon a Time in the West currently on Special Edition DVD, haven't seen it yet, my Dad bought it. I read the background info booklet for it and it sounds really interesting, hopefully will watch it soon, it's got Charles Bronson so it can't be that bad! Seen Fistful of Dollrs and little bit For a Few Dollars More aswell, they look good, but not as good as G,B and U. I have The Outlaw Josey Wales on VHS sitting on a shelf downstairs....it doesn't appeal much... |

Now, I don't think you should call me a fan. Not yet. I've seen The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, but that's really it. I'm going to buy the rest of Sergio Leone's films, I'm waiting for Django to arrive, Unforgiven is in my wishlist and I was told that Lucio Fulci's Four Of The Apocalypse is good... so there's plenty for me to see before I even dare to say I like westerns.
Also, I must say that it was the perfection of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly that made me fall in love. All the way, from start to finish.. everything was perfect, and to me, the scene where Tuco runs around the cemetary looking for the grave was like a cinematic orgasm. I'm a fan of great cinema, but western? We'll see. [ August 19, 2004, 08:26 PM: Message edited by: Nabbe ] |

I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I really like and greatly admire Sergio Leone's 3 classic Westerns.
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is an absoloute masterpiece of Cinema. From start to finish its great to watch. The music, which in this type of film doesn't seem as important when you start watching, becomes like heaven to your ears. The 3 main character gives assured performances, the late Eli Walach(Tuco) especially, is worth the price alone for his role. The other 2, A Fistful Of Dollars and For A Few Dollars More are both good movies, but aren't anything special. Peace JENOVA |

I'm sorry Brotha but you missed imo the best western of them all, shunned by many western fans as being too far away from the orginal formula, but this film with major assitance from Unforgiven reignited Western films in the 90's and that is Tombstone. A stella class about a classic story of one mr Wyhatt Earp.
I also personnaly enjoyed the Kevin Costner version as well. I've seen just about all of those westerns you mentioned, Unforgiven is a classic, the good the bad and the ugly isn't as good as many make out, but a must watch just to see the "orginal" spagetti Western. |
