Using inaccurate personal data for signing up on free online services?
Assalamu alaykum.
Many free online Internet services like Email, Instant Messaging etc. require extensive personal data in order to sign up. Personally I do not want to provide those free services all my personal data like birthday, living place, full name, etc.. I want to keep a certain privacy. Will it be permissible for me to sign up to those services while using data which is not accurate? For example when asking for postal code instead of writing the correct one I would write "00000" or instead of full name I would just write some imaginary name or a kunya? |

Is it allowed? We use it extensively. Almost any online service requires our name, date of birth and address. Can someone from the 'Ulama clarify this for us or provide a wise alternative please? |
