Wanted to bump this. The talk is by Shaykh Nuh Ha Mim Keller. He gives an interesting perspective on photos and their evils. He says in America 1 of every 4 girls are molested by her parents or immediate family and 1 of every 6 of boys and says this is because of pictures. He says 20 Saheeh Hadith prohibit tasweer and asks "how many times does a person need to be told?"

He also says at one point about photographic images (not drawn) "anyone with a single active brain cell will tell you it's a picture" - i.e. photographs are pictures too [hence falls under prohibition in Hadith]. He also discusses some exceptions for when pictures are permitted.

Shaykh Nuh refers to a number of studies/books in his lecture and he continuously reiterates "the wisdom is plain" i.e. the wisdom of prohibition in the Hadith is very clear for us to understand nowadays.

The message of this lecture is that if a person wants to attain nearness to Allah, then they must abstain totally from pictures.

He mentions a "true Naqshbandi Shaykh" who would consider it prohibited to have a TV in the house even if it was boxed up and stored away.

I know someone who tried to take a photo of sheikh Nuh. he climbed up onto something & had the perfect shot & then a strong wind came by as the shot was taken. my friend didnt get the shot & then he heard of Sheikh Nuh's view on photos.

Salam,

There is a position that says that photography is allowed but drawing/painting is prohibited. Maybe I'll mention their point of view later just for the benefit.
