My husband and three children are thinking of going abroad for a week to ten days. Would like to go somewhere beneficial in terms of connecting with Islam, activities/sight-seeing to fill up time. Any ideas?

Yes we thought of that, but the children are too small for me to handle on umrah just yet and we're thinking of going in June when it will be really hot.

sister saj my parents just went turkey about a month ago and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Brother daywalker from sunniforum had previously put the details of a guide and we utilized him. He was very cheap, very good and took them everywhere. They visited 19 graves of the sahabah. I think Turkey would be a good option.

Just come to Bangladesh in the sea beach of bay of Bangle.

Sister, Turkey is a nice option and offers a lot to see the Islamic history ...
The food is amazing and no matter where you are in turkey, there a Masjid close-by, thus making it easy to offer Salah on time.
Topkapi museum is not to be missed ...

Salaam yes I was thinking Turkey (or Spain for Islamic heritage) but wasn't sure what exactly to do in Turkey. It would be really helpful if you could let me know more about this guide/package and we'll look into it inshallah.

Sultanahmet Masjid (Blue Mosque), Hagia Sophia, and Topkapi Palace are all VERY close to each other. You can visit them all in half a day if you wanted to. Also, try and read Esha Salaat at the Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet).

I remember hearing from someone (or maybe reading somewhere) that if you have a full beard, topi, jhubba etc. you would be a target for the intelligence agencies, and that you may be followed everywhere? Can any brothers who have been there recently shed some light on this? i.e. would a man in traditional sunnah appearance and a woman in niqab be welcome as tourists or they would face difficulties?

Also, how is the Halal situation there - is meat generally reliable or do they face the same problems as much of the Middle East with imported meat/lax rules etc.?

brother my parents went there recently and had no problems. My father described an area called Carsamba (where shaykh mahmud mureeds live) as resembling Madinah munawara. He said the place would be the best to stay at though its far from the tourist places. With regards to the meat my parents avoided the meat of most places and only ate meat from certain places.

I think the sister wishes to go somewhere with her children as a family outing rather than seperately.

Turkey is a fine choice, and much can be said about it. My suggestion is to make Istanbul your base; here visit the numerous masajid, and the Topkapi Sarayi (Palace) housing numerous relics of the Prophet (salla'Allahu ´alayhi wa alihi wa sallam), his Sahaba (radiya'Allahu ´anhum) and other Anbiya such as the Prophets Musa, Dawud and Yusuf, ´alayhim as-salam. For the one interested in architecture, the city has many palaces, but they do not contain relics. Also visit the Museum of Islamic Arts, mostly known for their carpets, but they also house some magnificent copies of the Qur'an (gain the reward of reading from hundreds of year old mus'hafs), and the hair from the beard of the Prophet (salla'Allahu ´alayhi wa alihi wa sallam) - and it is often much less crowded than Topkapi, hence you will get a better and longer look at the blessed hair, insha'Allah Ta´ala. The museum is located just opposite Sultanahmet Camii.

As mentioned, Carsamba is a very lovely, modest and conservative area. It is a good place to meet and greet the conservative non-modernist citizens of Istanbul. It is also quite naturally the best place for shopping anything related to Islam, such as books, clothes, misbahas etc. You will find that many of the stores are owned by the murids of Shaykh Mahmud Ustaosmanoglu, popularly known as "Mahmut/Mahmud Effendi". However, take note that you will be hard pressed to find shop-keepers who speak or understand English there.

Watch out, as shop-keepers, restaurants and taxi drivers often try to trick you, making you pay way above local prices. Some taxi drivers will pretend to be lost, or that you did not give them sufficient information etc. and then demand a higher than the agreed upon price.
