Free Quran (Getting One)
http://discussworldissues.com/forums...lies/salam.gif
Does anyone know what kind of version (Ali? Pickthal?) of a Qu'ran is sent from "allah's quran . com / free" or "Islam Tomorrow . com" ? Are these safe websites to give my information to? Thank you. |

I am personally not aware of either of those sites, so I couldn't tell you if they are legitimate or not. A quick look at the first one, whatever little bit translation I read from there, it seems accurate. I am sure some more knowledgeable brothers and sisters will chime in. Sites I know to be legitimate are http://whyislam.org, http://islamicity.com, http://www.islamweb.net/emainpage/index.php, and many others but these are just ones which come to mind. Translations of the Quran are available on all these and other sites online, and if you own a smartphone there are also many Quran apps these days featuring recitations/translations etc. It is nice to see a non-muslim brother making effort to explore the one and only true religion of Allah, the religion which all Prophets (peace be upon them all) starting from Adam (peace be upon him) to the very last Prophet & Messenger of God, Muhammad http://discussworldissues.com/forums...ilies/pbuh.gif (peace be upon him) preached & followed. I pray to Allah that He open the doors of guidance for you and for all of us and that He keeps us all steadfast in Islam. Ameen. |

Thank you very much for your courteous reply. I feel nervous after giving my information to those websites. I have not received any Email from there telling me that they received my request, or when they will be sending me a Quran. If they do send one, I don't believe I will receive it for another 6-8 weeks (2 months). Do you think if I went to my local masjid that I will be able to obtain a free Quran from them? Is that something they do? |
Salaam brother!
allahsquran.com is a site by sheik yusuf estes, a muslim convert himself. I suppose you have to ask the mosque yourself, i am not sure of it. Since you intend on reading the Quran, let me just say that NONE of the english translations are the Quran. They are merely the interpretations of the translator in English, and it will never be equal to the original. Also, the interpretation of the Quran itself is for those who are learned in the field. It would be good if you find a Quran with tafsir/commentaries to have a better understanding. Generally there are 2 types of verses in the Quran. The Mukhamat and the Mutashabihat. Basically the mukhamat are the simple, direct verses. The mutashabihat on the other hand are the ones that require certain knowledge in order to understand. muhkamat: Something of which knowledge was desired. Something with only one dimension. Something sufflcient in meaning, requiring no further explanation mutashabihat: Something known to Allah only. Something with more than one dimension. Something requiring further explanation. |

Devoted, Walaikum Assalam. Thank you for your reply. Do you know much about Yusuf Estes? Is his website safe or reliable? Do you know if your own mosque have Quran's that they give to non-Muslims who ask for them? Is it common place? I tried to call a local mosque in my area, but no one answered the phone. I chose not to leave a voice message, however.
Thank you for your explanation of Mukhamat and Mutashabihat Quranic verses. If it is not too much trouble, would you mind giving examples of what constitutes a Mukhamat or Mutashabihat verse? Do these words "Mukhamat" and "Mutashabihat" have English translations? |

Hopefully, allahsquran.com will come through, but I have no way of knowing. |

No problem.. Yusuf Estes is quite a popular speaker on Islam from the U.S. I think his site should be safe/reliable but to be sure why don't you try sending them an e-mail first to see if they would reply? Just in case they were inactive for some reason. I live in a relatively small country where it's quite easy for curious non-muslims to get an english translation of the Quran or even go to some free classes on Islam from a mosque/islamic centre.
On the matter of mukhamat and mutashabihat, Mukhamat example: 'O you who believe! When ye deal with each other, in transactions involving future obligations, in a fixed period of time, reduce them to writing. Let a scribe write down faithfully as between the parties ...' (Quran 2:282). Mutashabihat example: '(God) Most Gracious is firmly established on the throne (of authority)' (Quran 20:5). Note that the words in brackets have been added by the translator in an attempt to interpret this verse. Here the Quran talks about itself.. 'He it is who has sent down to thee the Book: in it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning); they are the foundation of the book: others are allegorical, that is those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord and searching for its hidden meanings, but no one knows its hidden meanings except God and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: "We believe in the book; the whole of it is from our Lord;" and none will grasp the message except men of understanding' (Al-Qur'an 3: 7). On whether the words mukhamat and mutashabihat have english translations, I'm afraid I don't know :s May I ask why you are interested in reading the Quran? |

It has been over two months and it doesn't look like I will be receiving a Qu'ran. Any suggestions on how to obtain one (that does not require me shelling out money I don't have?) |

I can not thank you enough Abu Zakariya - it was giving me the willies. We have the responsibility to deliver the truth and this is our state that a brother has to wait so long. http://discussworldissues.com/forums...lies/jazak.gif wassalam |
Keep recitation of the Holy Quran on daily basis. It provides spiritual guidance to every individual, to live in this world and hereafter. However, being a Muslim we need to build a strong relation with Holy Quran, because it may also give dimension to run on the way of Allah Almighty.
