Reading salah in College
 

I've been in talks to my college to read salah at lunchtimes/afterschool.

They have offered me three different rooms:

Room A- College exective meeting room, very clean and Smart, but has around 10 painted portraits of people on the walls, note that these portraits are very high up so you can't see them without looking up

Room B- College Health room- a clean but unpleasant room, has posters of the wall of very inappropriately dressed females as part of sex education

Room C- College Classroom, very clean room with no pictures. However, it takes many flights of stairs to climb up, and I have a health condition which would journey there quite difficult.

Could you guys offer me some advice over where to pray.

Try and ask if they have any other classroom in the college which is on the ground floor or first floor.

At my sixth form there was a tiny cupboard of a room which had been converted from a bathroom (yuk) to a multi-faith meeting room. I think I was the only person to pray there while I was there, while the Christians were occasionally there having tea and discussing things. I've been told more muslims use the room now, alhamdulillah.

probably best to go for A.

if you go for C, many Muslims will not bother going, because it takes too long to get there, and they will only grudgingly pray there. for every person who prays there, you will get a reward, so good work!

choose either A or C and make istikharah after you've chosen it.

First I want to ask how can a room be smart?

Secondly, I would contact the Mufti Abu Hajira here and ask him about the ruling for praying in such a place, tell him the situation front and back and then see what he advises you. If you get the green light from him about this room then take it. Do not take the 2nd room, it is better to pray outside in the snow. The third room you may never even be able to make it there to offer salaah with your medical condition.
