AOA all,
Dear sisters, I had this very easy question to ask. I know the answer somehow and I yet want to sort of get a confirmation. My question is, how to clean yourself off the filth after your periods in order to purify yourself for all holy prayers and stuff? Like when you take shower after the 7th day of menstruation, what is the exact procedure to be ‘eligible’ religiously? (sorry, I couldn’t find a better word). Kindly, explain the step-wise procedure of it. Also, tell me about how important it is for a woman to clean herself off. And what care should she take (in religious manner) during her menstruation. Plus, shaving off the hair of pubic area (genitals) and also arm-pits – is it all of any importance or sorta mandatory? After how many days/weeks should a woman shave off her hair? Should she do it after every period? (Please include this thing, if necessary, in the procedure too, all step-wise). |

AOA all, My question is, how to clean yourself off the filth after your periods in order to purify yourself for all holy prayers and stuff? Like when you take shower after the 7th day of menstruation, what is the exact procedure to be ‘eligible’ religiously? (sorry, I couldn’t find a better word). It's the simple procedure of Ghusl. (do note it becomes waajib after the termination of Haydh acc to one's habit, and not necessarily 7 days) Here is the sunnah method of performing Ghusl: First wash both hands upto the wrists. Thereafter wash off any impurity that may be on the body of both the front and back private parts (whether there is a need for this or not). Now perform Wudhu according to the Sunnat manner. If one is taking a bath in such a place where the water does not flow away but instead gathers at the feet, then do not wash the feet there. After the Wudhu, pour water over the head thrice (sufficient water should be poured so that the entire body is completely drenched). Rub the body with the hands so that no part remains dry. If even a hair span is left dry, the ghusl will be incomplete. In short, ensure that water passes over the entire body. Thereafter, move away from this place to a pure spot to wash one’s feet. If, however, the feet had been washed at the time of Wudhu, then there is no need to repeat. (Behishti Zewar, Shami- Vol. 1, pg. 157– 159) The above mentioned method is the sunnat procedure for ghusl. In ghusl, some acts are compulsory without which one’s ghusl will not be correct and one will remain impure. Thus it is necessary to have the knowledge of what is compulsory in ghusl. Only three acts are compulsory in ghusl. If the sunnah ghusl is done correctly, then automatically these 3 will be done. 1. To gargle one’s mouth (in such a method that water reaches the entire mouth.) 2. To place water in the nose ( up to the soft portion) 3. To make water reach the entire body. Kindly, explain the step-wise procedure of it. Also, tell me about how important it is for a woman to clean herself off. And what care should she take (in religious manner) during her menstruation. inshaAllaah the above is sufficient. It is preferable (mustahab) to remove the pubic hair, hair of the arm-pits, nails, to have a bath and cleanse oneself at least once a weak. It is best to do all this on a Friday before going for the Friday salah (not Jumuah salaah for women though). If one cannot do this on a weekly basis, he should carry it out every fortnight. If not, at least every forty days. There is no concession beyond forty days. If forty days expire and the person does not carry out the above, he will be committing a sin. Bahishti Zewar, pgs. 300-301, English Edition, Publisher: Darul Ishaat Imam Muslim in his Sahih narrates: (عن أنس بن مالك قال قال أنس وقت لنا فى قص الشارب وتقليم الأظفار ونتف الإبط وحلق العانة أن لا نترك أكثر من أربعين ليلة (صحيح مسلم Anas (RadhiyAllaahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (SallAllaahu Alaihi Wasallam) stipulated the time for trimming the mustache, clipping the nails, plucking the armpit hair, shaving the private parts, that it should not exceed forty days. (Sahih Muslim) Also note, To remove the pubic hair in the state of impurity is disliked, but if one is afraid that 40 days will elapse then it is permissible to remove the public hair in the state of menses [askimam] wAllaahu A'lam Hope this suffices. |
