Default Hamza Yusuf - don't watch tv
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuzWG4TGJAk

There's nothing controversial in this particular clip - don't waste time on TV although he appears a bit hyper!

Well, I don't watch TV much but if I do then it's recitation, Islamic lectures or NEWS.

television is the satan that we bring into our house to teach ourselves and our children everything evil.

I remember hearing one Sheikh saying it is like having a sewer pipe pouring filth into your living room.

if you have a tv its good to tune it into just the Islamic channels like Islam Channel.

having a tv tuned into the mainstream channels is like inviting the Dajjal to come and live in your house.

and yet there are many people with a TV and....

their teenage son thinks he is a rap star and is taking up zina as a hobby

and their teenage daughter is secretly buying sexy/romantic books and is dressing badly when she gets away from the house and has a boy who she sends text messages too

etc

and they (the parents) sit there wondering why their sweet children who did well at Madrassa turned into the disobedient horrors that they have become...

even though they have let their children's heads get filled with filth since they were small, just because the ignoramuses of the world said 'you must have a TV otherwise you are not normal, you are a fanatic' and convinced them that TV stations run by non-Muslims and sinful Muslims were harmless and even beneficial

I am having tv problems with my parents lol. they watch the news and , well they believe many things that are said on it. its so hard to convince them that mujahideen aren't 'terrorists' , 'indian agents', 'brainwashers' etc.

some people here would say Islam Channel is not a good channel to watch because it doesn't agree with their viewpoints. What do you make of Peace TV bro?

Don't ever bring a TV close to you or any kid. I just find it really amazing how children nowadays they are discussing all of these events on TV, subhanAllah. Even when there is just a computer you can somehow watch TV programmes on the internet. The best thing to do is have a central computer in the living room or near the kitchen with strict parental control. No TV.

If there was just one country really on the Shariah and that didn't have to accomodate itself to anyone (like Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan prior to the American invasion or Islamic Courts Somalia before ethiopian invasion) then it would be somewhere where someone could make a sattelite and online channel (something like a Sunni equivalent to what the Shiahs do with Press TV) through which more accurate understandings of international events could be promoted InshaAllah.

I didn't like it at one time, but it has improved in recent years.

I used to watch Peace TV alot, but I don't like the adverts where Zakir Naik is made to look like superman or an angel.

Huda and Iqra are also well worth watching too.

As for fiqh differences etc we just have to put filters on our ears if they are saying things different from the scholars we personally follow.

Salaams all.

Where do you get Huda? I don't know this station. Not all the programmes on Peace TV are presented by Dr Zaik. Don't you like Abdur Raheem Green or Yusuf Estes? I think the trailers / adverts are kinda cheesy!

jazeerachildren (kids tv in Arabic) is good too.

You can watch Huda on dishes that recieve Hotbird sattelite. Its based in Sharjah and is similar to the peace tv but without Zakir Naik.

Personally I can't connect with Abdur Raheem Green but I'm fond of Hussain Ye, Jim Jones, Salim al Amri and some of the speakers who often come on peace tv.

We used to have al Jazeera Children Arabic channel but we deleted it because there were a lot of young female presenters without hijab (this was a couple of years ago so maybe things have changed).

The Internet-mobile phone combination is a greater source and outlet of fitnah than TV these days.

Don't understimate tv brother, but yes these type of phones provide access of young people to every sort of filth of sorts that do not yet reach the tv screens in most houses Muslim parents beware

hmmmm???

- tv provides the fantasy...

- internet lets a person play out that fantasy...

- and mobile phones make the fantasy into a somewhat reality.

and parents?
parents allow this to happen.
as long as you get good grades in school/college and get a good career, and put on your friday best once a week for jummah, your parents will be the proudest in the world! they dont care too much about the details!!

and then there is also another side to this.
the child wants to follow a righteous path and wants to make his feelings halal for someone. but instead of saving their child from falling into temptation and letting them get married, they deny them this for whatever worldly reasons.

I use my PC for watching any kind of TV program.Al most all TV channels have their own account on Youtube or their own websites, you can watch them at your own time.
Advantages of PC over TV
1. You dont have control over TV channels. (for example: the ads that come in-between)
2. You can see TV programs over net at any time.
3. No need to pay more to TV
4. possible to gather all family members at same time to watch on net.
5. Unwanted parts, haram clips, not interesting views could be avoided

...
....
and so more
4.
