I've been trying to have a conscious OBE for about 5 years. I took one of Robert Bruce's workshops several months ago. Still, nothing.

But the other night, around 3:00am, I was half awake, half asleep, but conscious, and heard lots of audio hallucinations. I suspect I was experiencing full-blown hypnogogic imagery via sounds. I heard voices, sounds and music. It lasted a couple of minutes and I noted how bizarre it was.

Then, without even trying, I was crouched down beside my bed, like a dog lying down. I was conscious at this time and realized I was out of my body. I tried hard to maintain this state by purposefully not focusing on my physical body and staying crouched. Then, ever so gingerly, I started to crawl out of my room. I went around the hallway, down the stairs, then stood up. I walked to my office door which was closed. I close it every night before I go to sleep so I know it was closed in reality and checked it in the morning and it was still closed. So there I am, in my astral body, standing before this closed door. I put my hands right through the door and then followed with the rest of my body and walked right through the door. I actually felt the denseness of the door itself as I walked through.

Soon after, the event stopped. I woke up to write it all down then and there. The bottom line is that I proved to myself, once and for all, that OBE actually exists. This was no dream. I was fully conscious at the time. It was an extrodinary experience. I guess at 3:00am I was in the perfect restful state to hava an OBE. This gives me a hint that when trying it during the day I must get fully relaxed and enter that hypnogogic stage first. I'm very enthused that I had this experience. Just wanted to share my success story!
