Default Was this a real OBE or just a lucid dream??
Please bear with me this description might be a tad lengthy, but I would very much appreciate some insight on this experience that I had last night. (Please keep in mind that I have been reading the "Astral Dynamics" book, but haven't done any of the exercises just yet.) I don't know if I was dreaming or if this was all astral. This is what happened: I was looking at my t.v. which had a blue sky and white clouds on the screen, so I decided to use this to relax my body. All of a sudden my whole body begins shaking really bad. I was aware that I was trying to project so I take advantage of the situation and begin to imagine the rope hanging down from my ceiling so I can use this technique to separate my projected double from my physical body. This was odd, because I could actually see this rope hanging down over my head/chest area. All of a sudden, I could feel my projected double begin to separate from my body. As it was separating, I could see my projected double actually sit up in front of me and then gradually separate entirely from my physical body. I could see my projected double float away from me; it was transparent and had a white outline. Once it floated up, everything became pitch black. I don't know if this blackness was coming from my mind of the physical body or from the actual projected double. I was aware that maybe the mind split had occurred so I tried to transfer my thoughts from my physical body into my projected double. At this point I was extremely excited and couldn't believe this was actually happening and the next thing I know I wake up for a breif moment. I go back to sleep and begin having crazy dreams. In one of my dreams, I dreamt that I told my mom about the projection experience that I just described above and this is why I believe that I remembered everything so clearly when I woke up this morning (I verbally spoke of what happened with the projection experience in my dream); in reality she has absolutely no idea that I am trying to learn how to astral project. I don't know if this was all a lucid dream since I could actually feel and see things. It's strange, because it was like I was aware of what was going on through this whole experience. It' hard to explain. I've been wanting to project so badly and praying about it, so I don't know if this was just all in my mind before I went to bed and therefore I dreamt of it. I am extremely new at this so please forgive me if I gave any wrong terms in the description. this may be worth mentioning as well: last night before I went to bed I had taken a nausea pill called Promethazine, which puts you to sleep and really relaxes your body. Who knows if that was a contributing factor or not. I've been taking this pill since April and I haven't had an experience like this until now. Once again, I am only in the process of reading the book "Astral Dynamics" and not doing any of the exercises. Please someone give me some feedback on this experience. Thanks!!

Dear Nicoletta: According from what I've read from Robert Bruce's books, Astral Dynamics and Mastering Astral Projection, sometimes when you come back from a projection but don't wake up, you turn your experience into a dream (lucid or not- it seems yours was), your subconscious influences what you experienced and you remember it as a dream. So it sounds to me that you may have OBE'd for a short time and then had a dream. It is possible, it has happened to others, including me.
