Default Just kind of curious...How much would you typically spend for a well bred purebred?
Just curious really but how much would one typically spend for a well bred specimen of the breed?

Obviously I'm talking the initial price of the pup. As we all know the real cost comes in later when you factor in supplies, dog food, spay/neuter, vet care, etc...

For an Amstaff? Less than $1000, not including a crop.

Any Am Staff I've ever looked at was at least $1,200 lol

APBTs... It depends. I've seen some nice gamebred dogs for a few hundred bucks, and I've also seen em for just as much as a show Am Staff. But the majority I've seen were $600-800

You get to talking to breeders and make friendships, you'd be surprised

$600-$800 will get you a "premium" APBT pup from a reputable breeder, but as always, there is no guarantee how the pup will eventually turn out. All pups/dogs are individuals of course. Often there is a lot of variation in an APBT litter and might come down to order of pick, depending on what you have in mind.

Depends on the breed. I've been looking into Dobes, Ibizan Hounds and Dogos. So far they are averaging around $1200 for a Dobe w/ cropped ears, $1000 for Ibizan and $1500 for Dogo w/ natural ears, cropping extra. These are pet quality pricing w/ spay/neuter contracts. Shipping of course is extra. But the Dobe breeders and Ibizan hound breeders are within driving distance. Dogo breeder I like is in another country so adds another $500 for shipping.

We were willing to pay $1,000, but a really nice breeder in Georgia only charged $750 for the pups. When we decided to take his sister (Maisie) too, and she only charged us $650 for her. Prior to meeting the breeder, I was in contact with a different breeder. She was charging $1,500 plus shipping. Too much for us!

I don't think I'd pay much more than $1,000.

Depends on which breed you mean. though you'd be hard pressed to make me drop more than $800 on an APBT

for an English Bull Terrier the price of a well bred pup from a GOOD breeder is between 2,000-3,500

I have paid 1200 for a ukc show apbt but wouldn't do it again. I'm ok with 800. Often I helps to star up a dialog with the breeder and go from there

I dunno. Gamebred APBTs aren't expensive. And by that I mean they rarely run above a thousand dollars. I don't plan on spending more than $800 for one when I get to a point where I can buy one. Simply because I'll be getting a pup and I'll never spend a crap ton of money on a puppy. A proven dog is something I'd be willing to spend a lot more on.

Now, I would also like to look into working-bred, Czech line GSDs and they can cost a pretty penny. For a dog that runs so expensive even for puppies, I'd probably go for an adult that has already shown the qualities I'll be looking for.

Right now, I'm happy with my cheap shelter dogs. Haha.

How do you think I got Bukra? I was just answering the question literally... from personal experience, it goes a long way to make friendships and co-own dogs! lol

I got Renee for a few hundred, but she was a "pet quality" pup and the breeder knew and liked me. Plus I was a shameless puppy whore when the litter was born always going over to see and play with them, they had a few more pups than buyers on the wait list, and Renee and I developed a bond when she was very young. I think that's why she was sold to me so cheaply.

I went over and was holding Renee at 5 weeks old. I had her cradled in my arms like a baby, on her back, rubbing her belly. She wrapped her paws around my hand and fell asleep licking my fingers while we looked into each others eyes. i swear she had a smile on her face as she drifted off. My husband rolled his eyes and said he knew at that moment we were going to buy her. The breeder watched us, laughed, and said we could take her home in a couple more weeks. Ah, memories.

For a well bred dog if I didn't have an in with the breeder I think I'd pay up to $600..maybe $800.

I dont run a breeding program, everything i do with my dogs is for fun, so i would be hard pressed to spend any more than 400-500$ on a dog.

Yeah there'd be no way I'd spend $2200 on a dog LOL. But hey, if you have the money to spend, go for it if you want!

I've only ever bought two APBT. one i spent $700 on. he is a great dog, great drive... but he overheats easy and has breathing issues. the other i spent $300 on. she has now been placed in a pet home due to generalized demodectic mange. all the others have been free and they've been awesome.

For English Bulldogs we've paid as much as $3,500 and as little as -0- but I think between $2,000 and $3,000 is the norm for well bred,(cough cough), examples. Currently have a very fine male that came from well know breeders that didn't cost us anything. The lady that bought him asked us to watch him when he was 12 weeks old while she went on a two week cruise. We never heard from her again and she never responded to our attempts to contact her. He's a member of the family now and she couldn't have him back for anything.

I paid $2500 for my show prospect dane pup not including crop. $1500 would be my limit for a pet quality pup, though. We paid $800 for our lab from one of the top Canadian show kennels.
