Default Reuniting dogs, little bit worried. Sugestions?
So one of my APBT has been down in Arkansas hog hunting. My other APBT and him haven't seen each other in 3 months. When he left they got along for the MOST part. Anyone that has gamebred dogs knows what I mean. My concern is that he is coming home this weekend. I dont want the 2 to start fighting immediately. Because thats what would happen if any other dog came on our property. I just hope they remember each other.

It's been 3 months so they probably will. Just take re-introductions slowly

Yeah I sure hope so. Like I said before they did get along before, but, they did have their moody days when they get pissed at each other at every little thing. (kinda like my wife) The one coming back has more DA then the one that is home, but, neither one of them will put up with any bs. I thought about muzzles at first, thats a possibility.

If they want to fight, a muzzle ain't going to do shit. Muzzle punches hurt like a mother fucker, a determined dog WILL find a way to get it off, and they still have those sharp things at the ends of their toes that can do a lot of damage.

I'd crate and rotate for awhile, then do a VERY gradual reintroduction, while keeping in mind that there's a good chance they will never get along. Plan for the worst, hope for the best, and don't be surprised if things go awry.

If it were me I wouldn't do the introduction at home even if they know each other I would do it on neutral territory. See how it goes there first! I've seen dogs reunited at home and beginning a crate and rotate before a greeting and It has a tendency to cause frustration and make matters worse! Just my opinion! Good luck this weekend

Awesome. I'll keep my fingers crossed for u. Let us know how it goes- if I may add. Try to be calm and no anticipate anything. Take a Valium or something. Haha kidding. But it's amazing how our fears and concerns can trigger something. They sense everything!

Thanks! yeah I am calm as can be lol no worries there. Ill just make sure they are both leashed, and bring a break stick. I just cant let them out of my sight. That is one challenging thing about having multiple APBT home lol.

Or you could just crate and rotate and not even give them the chance to fight, since they didn't really get along in the first place?

But I want to know how your DA dog was out hog hunting...

But I want to know how your DA dog was out hog hunting... That's actually a good question. I highly doubt its a solo team. Hog hunting requires tracking and catch dogs. And more then one catch dog. :/ Something isn't really adding up to me.

Are you sure you aren't meaning to say your hog dog is "Territorial"? That's a lot different. I've had some that work well with others, but home was home. And that was off limits. Or are you really worried about the one already home, and the hunting dog just reacting to a challenge? Which ANY dog is capable of.

Yeah, Snow is territorial but get along with dogs. 0o; I think you are confusing your terminology because I can't see a DA dog being used for Hog Hunting.. Or any team based hunting.

yeah they are territorial and protective. I was at a dock jumping event, and another dog jumped on me…make a long story short, my dog had a mouthful really quick..so I guess I really dont give them the opportunity to fight other dogs, to see if they are really DA. If we are not home and my dogs dont feel threatened they are not aggressive at all.

Oh, well that ^ is LOVELY PR for the breed

Your best bet is just to keep your dogs separated, since apparently preventing fights isn't your strong point.

Do you think this hasn't happened to me before?

I swing my dog around behind me, and kick the approaching dog in the face. There's no way in hell a loose dog is getting near enough to mine for anyone to grab anyone.

This is why you pay attention to your dog and surroundings. Unless me and the dogs have super hearing...
