That's hilarious. Sixty dollars for a dog you've put in hundreds maybe even thousands into worth of training and love, and those little buggers offered you a bag of dog food for him?....

People are morons!
When Pongo my little terrier mutt was a puppy we had him at the flea market with us. I had these people follow us all over the flea market offering money for him. Started with $150, then 200, then 250, all the way up to $500. Wife wanted him and husband thought he could get him if he offered enough money! I didn't pay a penny for him and had to begged/cry/pout to talk my mother into keeping him. I was only 14 then. Now 15 yrs later, he was worth that fit I pitched and the hours I sat outside refusing to come in until she caved! And I guarantee those people wouldn't have kept him past his first birthday. He might be a cute fluff ball, but he is all terrier! ![]() |

$85.01!
You really did handle it well. I think it's good when bulldog owner's can keep their cool with rude, immature comments such as strangers wanting your dog or wanting to breed it. If we all get out of hand about something like this, it does make "pit bull" owner's look like asses. Just like one aggressive acting "pit bull" to a stranger that doesn't know the breed can scare them away. All though I believe this, I have an extremely hard time with ignorant assholes ![]() |

I went to town today to look at a dog house that was advertised at a garage sale along with some teacher stuff for my wife. I decided to throw B.A. in the pickup and bring him with me. I wound up buying the dog house and a bunch of other crap and was loading it up when a couple guys walked up to the pickup. I had B.A. waiting in the back since I didn't feel like buying everything that he felt needed marking. A couple guys about twenty years old or so came up and started petting him and talking dogs. They asked if he was pure and I said there's no papers on him but both parents were bulldogs. They said he must be an "Old English Red" and they wanted to buy him. I politely told them that the dog wasn't for sale but thanks anyway. He got kinda lound and said "Look, me and my buddy got sixty bucks and we want to buy that dog!" Like he was trying to scare me into selling. I just told him again that he wasn't for sale and if he was I've put way to much time and effort into him for sixty dollars to even come close. I also as politely as possible explained that when you are trying to negotiate a price or buy a dog raising your voice to somebody is a good way to start a fight and if we'd have been in a less public place it sure could have. As Woodrow Call said, " I hate rudeness in a man. Won't tolerate it."
I ain't all that much older or wiser that these dudes but hopefully something I said sank in. It was a pretty minor deal, it just rubbed me the wrong way. |
