Default Love my new town!
So yesterday we went for breakfast in town at a local street corner cafe/bakery. I brought the dogs..on leash of course and we dined on the the patio. Throughout lunch MANY stranger approached and asked if they could pet our dogs...though one older gentleman really made my day.

He walked up and looked Prince and Slayer over carefully then smirked and said "Odd how you have two so called vicious breeds and all they want is to be pet and fawned over". I told him I loved them both and that it was a shame people didn't know the difference, and he then bent right down and let them sniff him and said "well in all my 76 years I always judged dogs on how they acted, not what some paper said".

My grandpa is a very conservative person, grew up in South Dakota in the dirty thirties, Navy in world war 2 real religious type guy. I thought he was going to freak when he heard I'd gotten my first pit. What do you suppose he said? "They're good dogs. You'll see."

Either they had different bulldogs or a different point of view. I tend to believe the people have changed more than the dogs.

My grandfather lived in England for many years and thinks staffies are the greatest dogs.. he use to have them when he was growing up!

I honestly think its many of the younger generation that has issues!

The majority of old folk I meet LOVE bulldogs, and say they had one in their family!

And I'm glad things are working out so well for you, Renee!

Seems like the old timers may forget some things here and there, but they don't forget how awesome a Pit Bull is. I have old folks on the walking trails at the park and at pet stores light up all the time when they see my girls. Always want to stop and talk to me while petting the dogs. even my evil dragon of an elderly neighbor likes them.

Among the younger crowd it seems to be the other Pit Bull owners and/or their parents who like them while everyone else sticks their nose in the air. I haven't made it through Petsmart yet without seeing a few Pit Bulls and their 20-30 something owners and at least 2 people coming up to tell me how their son/daughter has a Pit Bull and how great that dog is.

You'd think with the breed being so popular public opinion would be better in general. Guess the few bad owners really have ruined it for the rest of us.

Thats always a great feeling when you get to experience someone appreciating your choice of breed. The old people around here love Diesel! I took him for a walk around the lake yesterday and the only people that wanted to stop and pet him and talk about him were all at least 50 or older, one gentleman who had to have been 75 or so stopped and talked to me for the better part or an hour. We sat down on a park bench and he started telling me about the pit bull he had back in the 50's, wanting to know everything about Diesel, asking about why he was limping and all about his surgery. I could have seriously sat back and listened to him for hours just telling stories, but apparently he had shit to do haha. I got a kick out of the dads through the park that would grab their kids and hide them behind them, but felt bad for the kids at the same time. The kids wanted to come over and give him some lovin. After we left the lake we went to TSC and Diesel met a woman who said he was the first pit bull her son has been able to pet. I guess they live in an area where all the ones they see are aggressive towards people, I told her that it was sad, then she told me that she doesn't judge the dogs by the breed, but by the dog on an individual basis. That made me feel good that her son is learning that not all pit bulls are terrible dogs and Diesel was just pumped he was able to get mauled by the kid!
