Default Pit or Not
This isn't my boy, this is my brother's dog Simba.

Now my brother insists this dog is a pit, a bit oversized but a pit. To me, it's not. There's a pedigree to it but it's a bit scattered to me.

Anyone else?

If I hadn't posted this at 11 pm I wouldn't have bothered.... cause well Razor's Edge [grandfather] and in the background Kimmar's Cat.

Alligator dog [grandmother to mother], Jeep [grandfather to mother].

And then some mutt kennel GMX? dogs for parents.

I have to stand with Teal on this one. There are a lot of different breeders; too many to list so listing them wont do any good.
I have an idea, why don't you search for the dogs on the pedigree and see if you get linked to kennels.

Regardless he is handsome. ^^ looks like a teddy bear.

A dog can be scatterbred and STILL be that BREED!

Over-sized Pit Bull, I say, seen 'em around a lot. A dog bigger than standard can still be that BREED! -- he's chocolate, so that's why some say he looks like a Lab (you see lots of Labs this color), but I don't see it. Some will say he's an "American Bully", because of a certain name in the pedigree, but if he's got papers with UKC or ADBA he is that breed per their rules (and many don't LIKE their rules!). He can certainly be registered AS an "American Bully" because he is FIRST an American Pit Bull Terrier (per whatever kennel club he's registered with and I take it he IS registered?). If you do have good evidence that the papers are forged or hung, please present the evidence to the registry.
I don't think the pedigree's forged [ADBA], not a well known yard / kennel but certainly not a BYB. He could be oversized, I've heard of some "pits" reaching 70 lbs and more... he's 72 lbs right there in the photo... but I've always seen pits as my Tep's size [52 lbs].

It's just he's.... bulky compared to what I'm used to.. though the proportions are all in the right way - he moves beautifully. It doesn't matter one way or another as my brother loves this dog

yeah, Pit Bulls ARE getting too big in many instances; ALTHOUGH in looking back at my ADBA Gazettes and UKC Bloodlines, I saw several ads from the 60s and 70s for dogs even bigger than yours! We unfortunately are seeing more and more OF them. But, the more traditionally-sized dogs ARE out there too.

I was gonna say Lab in there too, because of that face. He also has a little longer fur than most full pits...
Was the "pedigree" for him, or one of his parents? His dad could have been the "mailman" and not known it...

Can you name some bully-type dogs that might come to mind and I'll see if they're in his papers.
What do you mean, "bully-type" dogs? There are Pit Bulls that are more "bully"-style, in that they are shorter and stockier, but that doesn't make them a different breed. The dogs in a pedigree are all of one BREED, although in Pit Bulls you can have two styles - a more bully look and a more terrier look. Pit Bulls can be either or something just in-between, OR something way too exaggerated to either the terrier or bull side.

Do you mind posting up the pedigree?
Can do when I get myself a scanner - I just moved into the neighbourhood.

IMO, I think one should stay away from the "bully" thing -- it does no good for the DOGS, is confusing (you'll find out), is revising history and does nothing but exploit a breed. At least go to one of their big shows/expos and be sure you want to support and have you and your dog be identified with that.

Did you consider a bully maybe?

Do you mind posting up the pedigree?

To me he looks like a fat pit.

Hard to say. I've had purebreds with longer coats and not all purebreds look stereotypically purebred so who knows. Handsome dog though.

There are a lot of dogs that could be in a pedigree. And papers can be hung...

I, personally, think he looks like a typical "pit bull" dog.

Exactly purpledomino, cut the feed on that porker. Not a bad looking dog otherwise.

Mayday was 72lbs on the chain.

No matter what he is, I wouldn't so much call him oversized as I would call him fat. Handsome dog, he just needs to cut down on the milkbones....
I'll let my 10 year old niece know what. My brother's cut his food, Gina just spoils him.

72lbs on the chain, I'll have to ask.
