Default Just Purchased! Can't Wait Til' It Comes In :)
New Heavy Duty 3 run dog kennels each being 10' long, 5' wide and 6' high for a little under $1000.
I can't wait for this summer. Instead of crate-and-rotating for yard time on hot days, I'll be able to have all 3 dogs out at the same time in much larger areas rather than having 1 or 2 dogs stuck in indoor crates waiting to be swapped out.

We won't be able to set it up until we purchase the kennel decking for $250 and the 3 Cabela sun block tops for roughly $180. And the dogs won't be able to use them until we purchase 2 more bark collars (already have one). It's an assload of $$$ but should last a lifetime and all can easily be taken down and moved if need be plus it should look really nice

This project won't be started for a couple of months but when it's finished I'll share a new thread w/pics of coarse! Just thought I'd share.

If anyone wants to share pics of their outdoor kennel run setups or any good deals on kennels, sun blocks, and/or decking or if anyone has any questions for other members and whatnot... feel free to do so

Yikes that's expensive lol! Glad I got Abbey's 10x10 for free! But I get what you mean about create and rotating. It's a lot more pleasant to put Abbey in her kennel and hook Bonnie to her tieout than go one at a time.

Just be wary of fence fighting!

I know it's expensive but I wanted them all to have the same size and type of kennels so our yard would look decent lol. And after searching around for what I wanted, I really couldn't find a cheaper deal (plus it included shipping which is pretty good).

And I'm not too worried about fence fighting because our female gets along with both of our males... it's just the males don't get along. So we plan to have our female in between the males and we'll see how it works out.

If that doesnt work out, just get some plywood and put up a blocker in so they cant see each other.

Do they have tops or bottoms? Not to bad, I like the look though. If it wasnt so hot during the summer here I would love some kind of kennel set up mainly for the cat because I would like to chain the dogs.

I like being able to easily take down things and move them, so thats a plus.

I might get a couple kennels about that size eventually, one for my cat so she can go outside and look at stuff but not be loose, and then I plan on getting a second dog once I buy a new house and it would be cool to be able to have one dog kenneled while one is out on the chain or playing and then swap them..

Tops and bottoms are pretty cheap and easy. If you can't cement the kennel floor use cement pavers or put down welded wire and put gravel or something similar. For a top use strongly secured welded wire.

I'd just put both dogs on a chain Pookie, lol. Cheaper easier, more space. Though I have been considering making a raised, roofed 5x10 kennel for Bonnie for when it's hot, rainy, nighttime, etc. You know, times where she'd just be laying in her house or in the shade anyway.

I probably will, but it really depends on the yard space as well as shade. It is almost always hot and 100% sun in Phoenix and if there is only one area where a chain can go that will be shaded then I would have to put in something that would cover the other chain area or just get a kennel and put a top on it.

I dont even know if the majority of the year if chains or kennels could be used, I think this year is going to be a very hot one, last year it was so intense and I dont know if a dog could have been outside for even 1/2 of the time.

I could put in a awning typed thing over the chain area and maybe set up some misters and those fans that they use for the cow farms out here..? They wont really need a dog house at all lol so they will probably have their own pools and stuff because it gets ungodly hot during the summer, and I know there is going to be certain times of the summer that they cant be out even with misters and fans..

I am hoping my dream house will be available still when I sell this place, its got a serious back yard and has 3-4 very large at least 200-300 year old trees in the back that would provide 100% shade for chain spots. The house has been on the market since before I bought my condo not last year but in 2010 I believe, so it might be right in my range now X)
That would be a perfect dog house! lol

Pookie- We have spare plywood just in case but I'm pretty sure they'd rather see each other... Onyx and Rocko are used to it being this way... Dozer's kinda the new addition to kenneling.
But the kennels do not come w/tops or bottoms.
We plan to buy 3 Cabela 10' x 5' tops for $180 and we are going to get kennel decking that snaps together 12' long x 24' wide x2" high roughly for $250.
We would get something cheaper for the decking (like normal wood) but the decking we found sounds like the best option as it doesn't splinter, mold, mildew, absorb bacterias, house bugs etc. and can withstand acid, bleach, etc. and dogs can't chew it up... so it sounds like some really good stuff.

We would do 3 chain spots as we have enough trees and shade..... but we've tried it before and had some issues. The main issue we can't get around is that our dogs hit the end of the line so hard that we're worried they'll seriously injure themselves by either snapping their necks or getting a spinal injury from flipping on their backs. I asked in another thread what other people did to stop this behavior and they all said 'let them learn' and I'm not willing to do that.

You could always pull a Hank Hill, and build Bear an air conditioned dog house nicer than the house you live in. With wood floors and shit.

As long as they have PLENTY of shade and a place to swim and water to drink, they should be fine. Keep in mind that if you put your dog outside in the spring or fall where temperatures are more mild, they will acclimate to the weather and be more tolerant of the heat and cold as the seasons roll around. That's why many 24/7 outside dogs can make it in the heat all day, but if you stick an inside dog out there in the 100* weather for a few hours he's bound to have a heat stroke.

I'm thinking about building a ventilated doghouse for the summer (in addition to shade of course) where the top half of the walls are just welded wire and the roof has a decent overhang to keep it cool and shady. Some dogs just prefer to have a shelter even when it's hot, at least mine does, lol.

I'd love a quad version of that. I'd be great to put the dogs out and not have to be staring at them. They could have more outdoor time and I could do chores!! Oh, to dream.

I am so jealous! I want a set up like that so bad, I still need to put a "top" on Logan's run, I have chicken wire and I just plan on attaching it to the top, and actually put it on the bottom too and covering it with dirt (it already has it going in about a foot around inside the kennel anyhow so if he tried to dig out he would hit it shortly after trying) I looked at these when I was pricing and don't have the space for anything like them, though when I move I plan to have enough room for at least something that big if not 10x10 set ups for each dog

That's a really nice setup. Went to a moving sale two weekend's ago and walked into a house of an EB breeder who had everything imaginable that had a bulldog on it or had to do with a EB. She brought us to see her two dogs that finished and they were adorable. She had for sale what looked like the exact setup with three kennels and she was asking 150.00 They were moving to Florida in a few days. What a great deal if someone was looking for that.

Oh for fucks sake.... plans have drastically changed lol.
We found 3 individual 10x10 AKC kennels at our local Costco that all come with roofs for $80 less than what we were about to pay for the 3 10x5 dog runs with shared walls.
So we have put in a request to cancel our order since it has not shipped yet and the payment has not been withdrawn.
I'm hoping they get our cancellation before they ship our order because the Costco deal is so much better.

And I realized that I'm an idiot and calculated the kennel decking incorrectly... it costs WAY more.
So I think for now we're going to do a framed, raised bed of gravel for the kennels to sit on top of.

But this ^ plan is all considering they cancel the original order in time lol.

We have chicken wire on the top of the kennel we have for Rocko now.... worked great to keep him contained but obviously wasn't good for blocking any sort of weather and rain leaked through the tarps we had up on top of the chicken wire so we took them off. It looked pretty white trash, I'm not gonna lie lol. We're lucky that ours never try to dig out.

I know, it seems like a life saver... that's why I'm so excited about it.
I hate crate and rotating and watching their every move when I do have more than 1 out at a time... it's so time consuming.
But I found the trio on Walmart's site (I hate walmart but it sounded too good to pass up). There was also a duo on their site for $600 something... you could save up to get 2 of those someday or something!
But seriously, good luck that someday you're able to do this... I thought this day would never come..... We really shouldn't be investing as we really don't have the extra money to do this... but it'll make my summer so much easier and will give the dogs the space they deserve to have.

If they want to dig out they'll tear through chicken wire unless you get a really heavy gauge wire. Welded wire would probably be better and cheaper. Sometimes you can talk to outdoor advertising companies and get the old tarps they use for billboards cheap or free. They work well for kennel covers if you can deal with the look.

That's why I'm glad ours don't dig to break out... in the past they dug a couple holes in the middle of their kennels, but thanx for the advice just in case.
And I don't think I can deal with 'the look' any longer lol.... we've had 'the look' you speak of for too long and it's kind of embarrassing... zip ties, torn leaky tarps and chicken wire ... not the prettiest.

You mean you don't want an old Viagra billboard for a kennel cover? Who could say no to that?
