I priced them before to help control Nicks barking at 2am. I ended up with one that sprays instead of shocks. (Much cheaper)
Which was great, since I only needed to use it a few times before he stopped barking. Now I need it again when I'm on the treadmill, but a few times with it turned on, and he just needs to wear it now. I thought about using one on Rosie for the times she blows me off at agility. Then I remembered how freaked out she gets when she hits the electric fence and decided it wouldn't be a good idea. So I just rewarded her when she remembered me and she has gotten a LOT better. |

Nothing wrong with e-collars when used properly. It's the people that shock shock shock the dog without telling it what it should be doing that give it a bad name. But that's the same with any training tool. |

I found 2 collars for 45 dollars. They have a vibrate and shock buttons. It works, the down fall is the fact you can't have the dogs wearing the collars and use the vibrate option because they both get it. However the shock options are divided by collar by button. I found mine on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...00_i00_details They get the job done and I think would be a good starter collar set so you can test it and see if you like the idea of training with an E-collar or not. |

I think that very few people know how to use these collars properly and understand learning theory enough to train the dog without damaging it. Any time I hear someone looking for info on "shock" collars, I immediately picture someone looking for an easy fix and just shocking away. Anyone that actually understands the process would avoid using the term shock. I don't agree with them, as I don't think they're necessary for any type of training. I absolutely hated the way my dog's attitude changed about training when using the collar, I want my dog to enjoy training, not just work to avoid the stim. If you can't train without an ecollar than you shouldn't be training with one.

I like sportdog's bark collar, but it was I think right at 100, the cheaper one I got does not work very well from sport dog, but you might look into them for a shock collar, make sure you get one for a stuborn dog lol that is the main difference between the 2 I have.
and about not understanding how to use a shock collar, I think it all depends on the REASON your useing it. I have to use anti-bark collars to protect my dogs from being poisoned by neighbors (not my imediate ones but ones that have complained that my dogs were barking when I worked 3rds and was not home to correct them) I would rather put a shock collar on my dog than endanger the dog's life. I would love to have an e-collar as well because 1 behavior my pup does and he taught Goren to do is jump at the glass door, I am scared they are going to hurt themselves by maybe breaking it, I do not have the money right now to get 2 e-collars to train them to stop this and all they want is either let in or you out so correcting them in any way is reward, ignoring them just keeps them doing it so I am kind of stuck. |

The fact that you're calling them shock collars tells me that you probably shouldn't be using one. I sold my tritronics collar for $175 because it was practically brand new, only used it twice and then decided I'd rather keep my soul. I have a Tri tronics now and love it, but you're gonna pay for it pretty good. Sportdog collars have worked pretty good for me. Have heard good things about Dogtra but never messed with one. |

I sold my tritronics collar for $175 because it was practically brand new, only used it twice and then decided I'd rather keep my soul. It doesn't matter what you call it. Most everybody I know calls it a shock collar. If you can read, watch a DVD and ask somebody with a little experience any questions you have you'll be fine. It's insane to tell somebody that they shouldn't have something because they use different terminology than you. OP, I assure you that the shock collar is not inhumane if use correctly, and has no connection to the soul. - Has anyone have experinece or heard of the brand Elite Tek? I see that Sportdog collars are in my price range, and the Sport junior G3 from Tri-tonics is too. And their life time warrenty seems good |

NO Petsafe. Bleh. They suck.
These are the collars I have: Sport Basic G3 EXP - Tri-Tronics Sport Series, Electronic Dog Collar Training, Sport 60 G2, Upland Special I got mine through a dealer on Ebay, as a 2 pack.. I think it was $350 for two of them. Pricey, but they're worth it. I really don't use them anymore; used them for recall training when I first started taking my guys to the 100+ acre park by my house. And FWIW, none of my dogs reacted negatively to the collar. Even Sako, who is SUPER "soft" had zero issues with it. Actually, he responds better to a correction from the collar than a verbal correction; probably because it hurts his feelings less because I'm not actually doing the correcting (in his mind anyway). As others have said, when used correctly, they can be great tools. Should they be used 24/7 or as a "clutch"? No. My dogs KNEW recall before I started using them, the collars were more as a reminder for them to stay within a certain distance from me. |

I have owned a couple different sport dog products and they've done me good. They just don't hold up to hunting as well as a Tri tronics which may not be a factor for some but is huge for me. You will never regret buying a tritronics product as far as I'm concerned. If there is one in your price range that has the features you need I'd buy it.

they sell refurbished collars. Mostly you get what you pay for, maybe find a good used one cheap. It's not they collars that are bad, it's the way people use them. A cheap collar with the wrong usage = a messed up dog. Even a good collar with the wrong usage = messed up dog. So make sure you start with training the correct way, which takes time, like any training. |

I would just go with something cheap for now and once you get use to using it with your dogs. Then go for something more pricey. Also You don't know if it will work on your dogs or not. Example, I can use mine on snow and not Koi. On Koi , the collar is too strong. So just getting something cheap to test with is better then spending all your money on something expensive and not being able to use it.
---------- Post added at 01:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:21 PM ---------- lucky for my collars there is a vibrate option. |

I've read its cheaper to buy the higher price ones in the long run. And it has a 30 day refund, so i can return it. Been reading reviews on which model to buy, etc for a few days now If you don't mind not having a warranty, you can find the one I have for cheaper, like this one: Tri Tronics G3 Sport Basic | eBay |
