Default "I am really scared of those dogs...
... but I really want to get one. I am getting a puppy, though, so he grows up around me"

One sided conversation at the local drive through after my dog was spotted by the cashier.
Seriously?
I had no idea how to respond to it, but said the most obvious: don't get one, if you are scared of them.
Can you imagine? Chick gets a puppy growl from her pup, she gets scared, dog gets away with murder, she can't correct it, dog turns into A-hole, somebody gets bitten, and the news report has the owner say: "I thought if I raised him with love, he wouldn't do that. Obviously, they just snap, no matter how you raise him. He was like my child... where do I sign for the BSL paperwork? "

WELL SAID! I am finding out more and more that people that mean well may very WELL make a dog MEAN

Maybe you should have said "I love my pit bull and would never own any other breed, but they are definitely not for everybody. You should always feel confident about the dog you wish to own, or you do them a great disservice."

Ok, so that's not all that simple, but, it sounds great, right?

How about when a family gets a dog because the baby is scared of dogs? A screaming, fearful child is going to make a dog real comfortable and the situation is not any more likely to get the child bitten, enhancing his/her fear. Oh wait, I think I got that wrong............

I know several people just like this, they got one as a pup because " I'm afraid of grown bully and/or pitbull dogs", the pup gets not structure and discipline and soon turns into an uncontrolable unruly dog who they then dump on somebody or the local pound because he's "too mean" they say and then they are against the breed???Come on, ?????

Those type of people are a danger to the breed. Had a similar issue a few years ago when i had a shepard pup. My ex brought her to the SPCA while I was at work cause he was scared of her so he couldnt control her. He told me she ran away at the park so I put up signs like mad. When he finally came clean and brought me to the pound (i cant drive), she was already adopted out cause it had been a month... He got abandoned next.

These are the people that freak out and worry that the dog is becoming HA the moment their pup hits adolescence and starts testing limits and pushing boundaries like any normal pup will do.

Aside from not understanding why someone would want something they're afraid of; I can't understand how they don't realize that they are doing the animal a disservice.

(Of course I also can't understand how you can raise a dog from puppyhood, love it and get attached to it and then actually be scared of your own dog when it acts like a teenaged shit-head.)

Would have left him at a rest stop..cept as stated previously..I dont drive so when we got home i packed my stuff and called my aunt..no one gives away my pup. Worst part was it was a dog bred from the Command Control Canine kennels in brantford ontario..not a big name..but they sell top notch shepards..got my pup free cause she was an "accident" so half dutch and half malinois. Very smart girl.

Definitely one of those that the only response you can have is "they are awesome, but just like kids, they aren't for everyone". Sometimes, people just make my mouth drop!
