I never thought I would be searching for an ankle biter! But, thanks to my grandma, here I am! Her 17 year old min-pin,Fanny, passed away yesterday. I found Fanny for my Grandma 11 years ago when her 10 yr old shitzu passed. My grandparents have never been without a dog before.
Grandma is in her 80's but is insisting I find her another little dog. She wants an older, tiny one, already housebroke. It has to be somewhat calm as my grandma's an itty bitty little thing. I've talked it over with my mom and she said if something happens to my grandparents than she's more than willing to take the dog. I never thought I'd be WILLING searching for an ankle biter yet here I am!I just can't say no to my Grandma. ![]() I'm in Northern Indiana if anyone wants to help! ![]() |

Pet adoption: Want a dog or cat? Adopt a pet on Petfinder
Do a search and you'll come up with tons of dogs. Just remember dogs with hair(poodles, Shih tzu's, maltese, Bichions) all need to be groomed every 6 to 12 weeks. So maybe find another short haired dog. Good luck |

Make sure she also knows NEVER EVER let them off leash EVER!!! They will take off and NOT come when called. They also will NOT listen when they're nose touches the ground, once they're on a scent you can kiss their attention GOOD-BYE!! They're also loud and howl and bay for the hell of it. They're great dogs, but they're not for everyone and with your mom being older, wouldn't recommend a Beagle, they're not lazy dogs and needs LOTS of exercise, more then just a daily walk. I have a Beagle and here's how I keep him in shape:
He runs about 10-17 miles a week, is walked 20 miles every week. Goes swimming three times a week. Plays on a spring pole for about 45 minutes every other day. Plays tug every day. Drags 35-70 pounds twice a week. He's fed two cups of food a day, 1.5 cups in the summer. But my Beagle is different from a regular Beagle, he's a retired hunting dog and he's a complete asshole. But I still wouldn't recommend a Beagle for your mother. |

This pound doesnt have a pic on their site of her for some reason. Maybe because she just came in?
I'm actually looking for a dog for my grandparents. My grandparents use to raise beagles years and years and years ago. They have a huge fenced in yard, so whatever dog we find for them will have plenty of room to run. I know a beagle isn't something I should even be considering for my grandparents but there is just something about this dog that touches my heart. I didn't think they were a min-pin type either when I found Fanny for them 11 years ago either but Grandma swears thats the best dog she's ever owned. I'm going to see if they want to go look at the dog on Friday with me. If they don't like the beagle then there was a cute liitle long haired weiner dog........lol. |

She's a cutie, looks like a BC mix though.. very, very energetic if it is..
Unless your grandma is able to give a couple of hours of good exercise to a dog, I would not suggest any working mix dog, because the pent-up energy would just turn into frustration and destructive habits.. I don't know exactly where you are, but this guy sounds great.. Housebroken, medium energy and seems to the the type to bond close with his owners.
