Maybe it is because of the large quantity of white on your dog. It isn't really a typical colour for most apbt and given that the dogo is white that really brings them closer together visually.

Dogos are huge dogs, if you put your dog next to it you could see the difference.

There's a really good reason why Dogo Argentino look like APBTs:

The base dog is the Cordoba Fighting Dog, and mixed with that were Great Danes, Bull Terriers, Boxers, Irish Wolfhounds, Mastiffs, Pointers, Great Pyrenees, and French Mastiffs (Dogue de Bordeaux.) Dogos were created to be big-game hunters ("hog dogs") which is yet another similarity they have with APBT.

There are several folks here in Georgia that have Dogo Argentino they use for hog hunting, and davidfitness83 is right....stand an APBT next to a Dogo Argentino, and you'll see a towering block of muscle over your dog.

The APBT was ONE of about 10 pretty varied breeds used in the creation of the Dogo.

http://largedogbreedz.com/large-dog-...d-history.html

"The Cordoba Fighting Dog was mixed with the Great Dane, Bull Terrier, Boxer, Pointer, Great Pyrenees, Old English Bulldog, Irish Wolfhound, Dogue de Bordeaux and the Spanish Mastiff."

So the Dogo is no more closely related to a "pit bull" than he is a pointer, or an Irish Wolfhound.

This article is mostly accurate (except it names bull terriers instead of pit bulls).

Another thing, Dogos don't really look anything like pit bulls. Well, that's not entirely true, they have similarities, (kinda like an American bulldog and APBT have similarities)mostly just general head shape and the white makes most people thing "pit bull" as soon as they're spotted. Not to mention the cropped ears.

Your average Dogo is about twice the size of the average pit bull, it's body is like a thin mastiff...kinda dowdy and untoned looking (but not as bulky as other mastiffs), and they have droopier flews.

Love them Dogos.

They look like tall pits on steroids. Beautiful.
Also, since they are used for hunting, they are supposed to be extremely tolerant of other dogs.(since they hunt as a pack)
This is another plus and yet another reason I want one.

It's funny because in the documentaries about the creation of the Dogo they show what it's supossed to be the Perro De Pelea de Cordoba but I found an old SPanish book which states that the dog used to portray the Cordoba dog is nothing but an Alano dog I also read that mixed type dogs were used to create this dog and the pure breeds they used were all working stock that were proven. Pretty interesting the creator of the breed had a funny quote he said " The Dogo is the best guard breed in the world, you won't hear the dog barking when an intruder breaks in, you will hear the intruder screaming for help lol"

They can be if you get them from working stock and they have to grow up in the pack with the other dogs. They won't take an outsider dog too kindly if it tries to challenge them. I am a member from Europe and everyone is saying that the Dogo is getting watered down and ruined by the show world just like all the other former working breeds.

I don't think they look nothing alike, but that is IMO.

I have owned Dogos for the past 10 years. And began fostering rescue Dogos the past couple years.
Some Dogos are what I would all bullier, others are more hound like. But overall, I think they have a unique look.

For some reason, most of my fosters that come from Miami tend to be on the smaller side. Usually very dog aggressive, but that I think w/ people in their area breeding and using them for guard dogs and no regard to the original purpose as a large game hunter.
Here are some pics:

Neva- foster Dogo

Casper- my Dogo

Dexter my previous foster Dogo on the way to his new home

Dexter

Dogo Puppy, Dexter, and Luna aka Girlie a foster pit bull. Dexter IMO was small for a Dogo, although more hunters seem to be preferring his size.

Dogos are a molosser breed. They are derived from the cross-breeding of several different breeds, but have more a mastiff influence than than bulldog. And no terrier.

for people with a discerning eye, they are not at all alike, but to the general public (and many otherwise knowledgeable dog enthusiasts who just don't have a knack for distinguishing differences) they can appear very similar to what most people think of as a "pit bull", and susequrntly, they too tend to get lumped ijn with BSL. The Dogo breed in particular has been added to breed restriction lists in many areas.

Not because there have been attacks by this very rare (comparatively) breed, but because they resemble a pit bull type dog to most people.

It's kinda like how people can't tell the diference between different species of snakes. Rattlesnakes are pretty noticeable in appearence...yet soooo many people are always telling stories about the big ass rattler they killed...then they show pics, and it's a ratsnake or a kingsnake, or even something as obviously different as a black racer.

yeah Dogos are huge and their head shape is very different than APBT. I mean, they are both short haired and muscular, but that's about it.

I think it goes back to how experienced a person is in a certain "field".

For instance, some people think I'm crazy because I can tell a Tennessee Walking Horse when I see one. I'm actually pretty good at telling the difference between all horse breeds; but to an average person, a horse is a horse is a horse.

I think the Dogo looks more like a mastiff if any breed. I can see a little bully in the face, but that's only at certain angles of the photos. I actually see more Great Dane than anything else, I think, lol.

Dogos have a longer face compare to most APBT's or other bully types. Great Dane status.
