I went out last night to have a smoke around midnight. My street is pretty dark and quiet, even on a Saturday night. I hear the "click-click-click" of dog nails on pavement and figure it's one of the many dog owners in my neighborhood out for a walk. It immediately occurs to me that there are no people out and about. Then I see the form of a dog a few feet away from me, then another. My heart jumps a little. Two dog out in the middle of the night, and me outside by myself, 103 pounds of pure fury. HA!
Into the light emerges a gigantic, smiling blue head. About that time, Evan walks out our front door to join me, so I yell to him "pit bulls", but I'm still a little wary because I've never seen these two dogs before. So I squee HI PIT BULL!!!!! and it's game on. The blue male, who is of course intact, lumbers over, jumps up on me, and the red female, who I'm assuming was also intact as it looked like she'd had a litter or two, fell in right behind him. They were super sweet bullies, no manners, and only the male was wearing a collar, no tags. The smell of yeast was also REALLY strong. We played with them and loved on them for a minute, until they got bored with us and went on their way. I was hoping we could stall them for a few minutes and maybe catch their owners out looking for them, but no such luck. We went back inside, smelling like dog funk and covered in slobber. I was worried about them for the better part of the night. I hate that they were put in a position to end up hit by a car or picked up by animal control. I wish I'd had the means to hang onto them until the owners showed up so I could give them an earful about containing their dogs, but I don't have those means. Hope you're well today, bully dogs. I may swing by the shelter later and see if they were picked up. |
