Default old owner stopped over......
I heard a knock on the door and when I answered it I found...........Jack and Jada's old owner! My heart jumped into my throat and all the blood drained out of my face. She told me she wasn't mad at me for taking them dogs, she just wanted to know if she could see them. I told her she could see them but I wasn't letting them go. She came in and Jada started barking and growling at her. I put Jada in her crate while the lady visited with Jack. She told me she really wanted Jack back but then started crying when I said I had both dogs spayed and neutered. She then asked if her husband could come in to see Jack and I said that was fine. Her husband loved and petted on Jack but didn't really seem interested in getting him back, especially when his wife said I had him spayed.

Their version of the what happened was that the landlord (my bf's uncle) told them they had until the 17th of sept to have them off the property. I got them sept 1st. She said she had been feeding and watering the dogs every day but Jada refused to eat. She said they got Jada as a 7 week old and she's been skittish and afraid since the first day they got her so thats why they tied her outside . Jack has always been an inside dog up until a year ago (he's 2 1/2 now) and he's always been an awesome dog, very protective of the kids.

They both thanked me when they left for taking such good care of the dogs. I told them both they were welcome to stop over any time to see them. My heart didn't stop pounding hard until they pulled out of the drive way. I'm glad they weren't mad over the dog. Now I can walk them without the fear of them being taken from me.

Were these the AB's that were badly cared for and you took them and then were worried AC would change their mind and make you give them back?

I'm happy you got them altered and that you still have them, but I would be sooo paranoid if those old owners came to my house in the same situation. I would definately be keeping the dogs secure and supervised just in case they get ideas.

Ditto! My first thought was that the dogs would be under lock and key for a while after this visit. Certainly not let outside without a person attached to their tails!

Yep, these are the same dogs! I thought it was weird that the lady didn't start crying until AFTER I said I had him neutered. As soon as her husband walked in that was her first words, "she got them both fixed". Of course I said I spent way more on vet bills than I actually did. (my vet is awesome and only charged me for the meds, not office calls) She said she had been trying to feed Jada, she just wouldn't eat. It is true I had a hard time getting her to eat right at first but that was mostly because she was so weak!
I was a nervous wreck the whole time they were her. My bf was at a football game so it was just me and my son. I was imagining them trying to take my dogs, me going beserk like a crazy lady fighting for my dogs while my kid called the cops.
I still plan on keeping my dogs under lock and key like always but a part of me is relieved that I finally came face to face with them.

You have to wonder if she started crying because they were hoping to get the dogs back and make money breeding them. Like maybe they are in a bad spot financially and really need it, so they come to try and get the dogs back so they can have a nice litter to sell. If thats what it was then screw em and their alligator tears.

To be fair, though, it could be they wanted to try to get the dogs back and know they can't now since you have vet records proving ownership.

I don't know. I tend to think the worst of people who neglect their animals and suspect them of not so good motives.

I almost wonder if she cried because she was hoping you were as sucky as they were and would breed them and give them a puppy??

Either way, it is obvious that you love and care for them and I think it is nice that you let them in to see the dogs and all but I don't think I'd extend the invite again. Maybe say "I'd love to email you pictures" but not "you're welcome to stop in". Obviously it is stressful on Jada and so the courtesy is unnecessary.

I think breeding was the main reason they wanted the dogs back, especially Jack. Supposedly he's from johnson (something or other) bloodlines. Jada was to be bred back to her Jack (her father!) to "strengthen" the bloodlines. Jada definately is NOT breeding material! Her eyes are kinda droopy. I think I'm going to have eye problems with her later on. Her head, I don't think, looks nothing like a bull dog, in fact, it looks more like a great dane head at times! She's skittish and afraid of new people, places, and things. If they would have kept her she would have ended up biting someone out of fear.
The lady did ask for Jack back again before she left because her kids missed him. If they loved him as much as they claimed why didn't they take him with them? I would NEVER move away and leave my dogs behind. My dogs are my family and where I go, they go!
Zoeybear, I think you're right. If they couldn't have Jack and Jada back I think they were hoping for a puppy! I didn't think about that!
As for future visits, you're right again, it was to stressful on Jada and me.

Next time...check the door before answering when you're home alone. There was no telling what those people might have done.

I would be thinking they were checking the house out to see how easy it would be to get in and take the dogs. Make sure you have deadbolts, anybody with half a brain can pop a regular door lock with a plastic card. Also If you don't have dead bolts get one put on a single door and then get those slide locks for the rest of the doors(the kind you grab the little knob and lift it to move it to slide the thing, they are like $3 and take four screws to install, anybody could put them in). Get the mid range dead bolt too, I have had the cheapest and they are acting up, I spent $12 on mine but wish I would have spent 25-30..

Maybe I am just really paranoid, went through something similiar.

here's what I mean, home depot or lowes has them, they wouldn't stop a burglar willing to kick a door in but they stop someone from using a credit card to pop a regular door lock.

Maybe I'm just paranoid from being in the military, but there is no way in HELL i would let them come inside the house. If they wanted to steal the dogs, they now know where doors are, where crate locations possibly. I would come to the door with a gun and ask them to leave my property.
