DNA tests for dogs are not worth it. They are not reliable nor are they "scientific."
There was someone a couple of weeks ago on another forum who had a purebred Australian Shepherd (came from a long line of Aussies, proven, DNA'd with AKC, etc.) Her results came back as primarily Australian Shepherd but with Border Collie and Golden Retriever. |

As in your trying to find out if its a pit bull? The test doesn't work, it will come back as a huge mixture of stuff, a few people have tried to do it and posted on craigslist about it a couple years ago. There Registered APBT came back like Great Dane, Springer Spaniel, Mastiff, basset hound, Bulldog, Vizsla etc it was a mess LOL Its not accurate for APBT.

There are many on the market and some are better and some are horrible. The one that they lady used and posted it on your tube was a horrible example. Why you ask the test she used did not even have AmStaff as a recognized breed. SO how can you discredit the test? Your breed is not even listed. LMAO

If they aren't there yet,how come people have dna positive American staffs, apbts, and American bullies??are they lying?I've seen it on adba papers too. In believe the OP is talking about breed identification DNA tests. There is no breed identification test that recognizes APBT. The wisdom panel mx does have AmStaffs and Staffy Bulls as a breed they recognize. |

No store bought tests don't work. Maybe if you had like a golden retriever or something
![]() The difference between Breed DNA test and the Kennel club DNA test is the kennel clubs check to make sure the parents are said parents. The Breed DNA test is just a scam in a sense for people at home trying to figure out what kinda mutt they have ![]() Here is a review I found Online (Its too long to do the WHOLE thing so), the full review click here: Amazon.com: BioPet DNA Breed Identification Kit: Kitchen Dining I have been rescueing pit bulls for about 20 years, and have been selling diagnostics(Lab equipment)for about the same time.Recently I purchased 4 of these so called breed tests from BioPet Vet Lab.There data base is only for AKC breeds, and pitbulls are not recognized by the AKC,I expected no match to be found. With the assistance of my DVM,we ran a test on a confiscated fighting dog I named "SweetPea", she is great with humans ,but like most pits she is very dog agressive, and after dealing with this breed for 20 years I assure you there is NO AKC blood here !Imagine my surprise that not only did we get back results ,but that this dog has 7 AKC breeds in it.I showed the results to my vet, which said she is a mix of Yorkshire terrier, border collie, and saint bernard to name a few.He laughed and asked if I wanted to do a little experiment, which was to run the same dogs DNA with a different name, with my vet as the owner so BioPet would not know what we were doing. The results for "doe5557"aka "sweetPea" came back as a different mix of AKC blood, this time instead of Rottweiler being in the mix,Rhodesian Ridgeback was in there, and the various levels of how much of each breed was also different. In lab speak testing accurracy is based on reproducability, with PCR (the technology used here)there is to much variability to be precise enough to tell what is in your dog! |

nope, store bought is a waste as everyone has already said. unless you submitted registry papers and they ask you for a DNA test to verify the pup is offspring of said Sire and Dam then no, there is no real use for it and it isn't worth it. you may as well take that 40 and cut it up and toss it out the window (would be the same thing as buying the DNA test)

No store bought tests don't work. Maybe if you had like a golden retriever or something Old List http://www.jefferspet.com/ssc/assets...fo/0032028.htm New List http://www.biopetvetlab.com/BreedIDBreeds.asp Wisdom Panel has 161 breeds http://www.wisdompanel.com/breedinfo...sdetected.html Wisdom panel has the most variety. The way the DNA test works is that if they can not detect the breed it puts it in a breed similar in genetic makeup. No test on the market recognizes APBT. But I know the Wisdom Panel does Staffy Bulls and AmStaffs. |
