Default Puppy fur changing colors?
My puppy is 19 weeks today, for the past few weeks i have noticed some brown/light brown "highlights" showing up on both sides of his neck, (he is black with some white on his chest & paws.) We were taking a walk yesterday and I noticed some brown/bronze on his sides (very suddle but noticesable) almost like a pattern of "lines". Almost like a brindle? Can anybody tell me what this is about? Has anybody experienced this before? What is going on/ should I be corncerned about this? Good thing is that he is very shiny and the "highlights" makes him look even shinnyer. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance...

Very common for pups to change colors. The highlights you're seeing may either be brindle or your dog could actually be seal not black. I'll dig up a pic of my seal dog.

Here in low light he looks black.

Here in the sun you can see the red highlights

Thanks that is ecxacly what happens when he goes in the light. How often do you see this color? Disclaimer: I am aware that no color is rare, or more desireable than others, so no lectures on that... Just personal situations where you have seen this color please.

My dog is black and a few times has some reddish brown show up. It's his winter coat coming in or something. One time it got pretty dull and brown a vet told me to get fish oil but instead I got a higher quality of good and it turned black and shiny again

Yep, that's exactly how my puppy is. His "listed" color is black, but he's got a great deal of chocolate colored fur on his body. When the light shines on him, he's a sabley-chocolate brown with a darker ridge line on his back. He really is a weird color, but so pretty at the same time.

Seal is actually very common, a true black dog is what is more "rare" . Most seal dogs are registered as black because its not until they get older that you really see it.

Exactly. I've seen far fewer trully black dogs than dogs that were actually seal who's owners just called them black.

My last dog was black with the gold highlights. It was only noticeable in the sunshine. Be glad it is a very nice coat to have on a pit in my opinion.
