question

I have a pitbull and boxer the pitbull has never shown aggression toward people or animals very docile however i have a neibor that allows her dogs out without a leash and that dog charges at me and the pitbull when were walking barking and growling. My pitbull reacts with aggression toward that dog. Should i be concerned?

Yes, you should be concerned. First of all your neighbour has no business allowing her dogs to be off leash. I would talk to your neighbour and tell her she is putting her dogs and your dog at risk. My Logan gets along great with other dogs but will not back down if confronted by another dog. Do you have a breakstick? I highly suggest you purchase one.

This is a disaster in the making.

Its gotten to the point i go outside and make sure that little 10lb squeek toy as i refer to him isnt outside before i take my dogs out. he does same thing reguardless if its my boxer or pitbull and they both react the same way show the aggression back all the other dogs we encounter they dont bother or they play with it seems they react with aggression if thats how the other dog shows it first. I've talked to the women and she ignore's me not sure what else to do luckily my dogs are fairly well trained

I would call animal control. I beg to differ about a dog being well trained. When push comes to shove a dog will defend itself.

Your neighbour is asking for trouble. Perhaps having animal control come knocking on her door will change her mind. She has no business owning dogs if she can not adhere to leash laws.

If you have talked to her and you got nowhere then I would suggest calling AC on her. Its for her dogs benefit. One of these days her dog is going to charge a person or a dog and get hurt or even killed. At least make a call or two when these incidents occur in case something does happen with one of your dogs in the future so that her dog being loose and behaving aggressively is documented.

My dogs are the same way, btw. They are very nice and gentle with dogs that know doggie manners but will not hesitate to try to fight with a dog that approaches them aggressively. Generally, they see all dogs as their friends except those that try to start drama.

When I took them to the city park to meet an adult male that I was interested in adopting they were fine meeting a Pit Bull and a Beagle, but those dogs were well behaved and knew their social graces. When a Yorkie came at them barking and snarling and posturing I had no doubt Rita would have eaten him had I not had her on leash and walked in the other direction. Yet, after all that, she and Ike were happy to meet the Basset Hound we were there to meet. I am not concerned at this behavior as I think it very normal and understandable. I just take care to only let them meet nice dogs.

the worst part of the entire situation is im in my yard lol working on there training with a long leash. but being mine is a pitbull if something happened i know id be in trouble reguardless of being in my yard with a leash on him. ugg i hate stupid people
I do everything to be responsible dont go to dog parks never unleash him or leave my dogs unsupervised and im no safe to train in my own yard lol

Call animal control. All the worrying in the world will not solve this problem.

ephennaCypota 07-19-2010 09:24 PM

In your own yard? Screw that! I'd capture the lil bugger and take it right to AC/city pound/ shelter every time it comes onto my property. Let the owner go there to recover her dog and explain to the nice officer how it keeps getting out.

if you do not do something about this, take affirmative action.. you will regret it someday... your dog will be blamed for the irresponsibility of this person...
call animal control.... NOW...

we0MA4MI 07-19-2010 09:41 PM

i will next time that squeek toy is out off leash

objennasweene 07-19-2010 09:42 PM

I agree, call animal control... All it would take is a second for one of your big dogs to seriously hurt hers - and you would be blamed mot likely as you seem to know... For her dogs safety and yours, report it every time it happens until the owner takes responsibility...

I had to deal with the same thing with a neighbors mini pin... The dog is gone now, don't know if they finally signed it over to AC or gave it away or what - NOW they have a husky mix and a chow mix who terrorize me http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

I have been going through this same thing with one of my neighbors. And yes you are right, on your property or not because you have a pitty, if he hurts this persons dog you will be dealing with it.

I have had to call AC and file several reports about this persons dog running loose, and have told them to be sure they are on file. At least when/if it happens there will be a report or 2 or 3 on file that this person has been letting their dog run loose and it has been coming after my larger dogs.

Good luck.

Invest in a break stick.
