Default Meet Owen
We decided Flash wasn't going to happen since we really think the owner either A) has no real intent to find him a home or B) is looking for perfection that doesn't exist. Today we decided to drive 4 hrs each way to get a Basset Hound pup. Not too many pics yet as we haven't been home long, but here is what we got on a pit stop at Walmart in some God forsaken town in a county I never heard of

Cutie face!

Tripped over an ear and faceplanted

Lil speckled tummy

Telling the camera off

And Ike just wants his new lil brother to understand who the Jeep toy belongs to

I got nothing on Rita as she really really really likes the puppy and won't stand still long enough to get a decent pic. Ike is more like " Yeah, its a baby. Call me when it does something interesting."

BTW, the hubby picked the name. He said the pup reminded him of Kevin McKidd who played Lucius Vorenus on HBO's Rome and plays Dr.Owen Hunt who is a surgeon on Grey's Anatomy. He didn't want to use the actors name and the Rome character name would be silly to call out in the middle of the night when getting the dogs into the house, so Owen he is.

He just turned 8 weeks. He was the best of the litter as far as I was concerned. His breeder said he was a character. She said he was by far the most active and adventurous of the litter. She also said that he was smart and the type to complain when he needs something. When I told her what we were looking for in a pup she said Owen, his sister and his brother were the best choices. We thought his brother was a bit too mellow and we wanted a boy so his sister was out of the running. Besides that his brother was shaking and pretty much terrified when I picked him up and handled him while Owen was calm and a go with the flow type. It also helped that he played with and chewed on a tennis ball while his brother seemed a bit too fond of chewing my husbands shoes. Owen is also the biggest built of the bunch and looks to be taking after his father in build.

He was an angel his first night here. Went potty and settled into the crate with no problem. I thought I was going to get off easy until I got woke up by howling and crying just before 6am. You'd think I had him strung up by the ceiling fan and was letting people take turns whipping him with bamboo sticks or something. He's still screaming bloody murder and I am trying to pretend I can't hear it.

I thought it was funny when we pulled into the breeders drive and were greeted by a chorus. These dogs had big manly barks and those got mixed in with some kinda alert howl. The lady lives out in the middle of nowhere and has the best alert system ever. 6 adult Bassets can raise enough racket to summon the cops in the next county, lol. Not so funny when its one little puppy making enough racket for 2 dogs because he has issues and wants to lodge a complaint with management.

Ah, well, he will grow out of it. At least its during the summer and I can go nap when he settles down again.

That picture of Ike reminds me of how Ethel is whenever there's a puppy in the house. She mopes until they're gone.

Ike has gotten over the mopes. He comes and sniffs the pup here and there, decides its not interesting yet and goes about his day. He thinks puppies are boring until they can really play with him.

LOL, same with Ethel. Even then she'll still look at me as if to say "Why on earth would you bring this little monster here when you have me?"
