Settle an argument for me
 

If APBT's were banned in the US, would the dogs we already own be grandfathered in? Or would your dog be taken away and put down if it was seen on the street with you?

Wouldn't matter, because I'd sell my house and go off the grid with my dogs in tow.

Same here. Actually, I would love to go off the grid one day anyway. Good for the environment, good for the soul.

I guess it depended on why they were banning them. If its because they are monsters I would think they would want to take all of them and put them all down... lets just hope that never happens. Id have to go into hiding becuse I wouldnt be giving up my boy wihtout a huge fight

It's my 10 year goal. Within 5 years I will have my degree. I already own my house so that's one thing out of the way. You wouldn't believe how much money I save not paying rent, and I work part time for a little over minimum wage. Once I have a big girl job I'll be ballin'. Right now I'm practicing my gardening/farming, and getting all my research done as well as making my plans.

Plan is to first buy a decent plot of land (at least 20 acres) and either build a log cabin, or put a manufactured home on it and beef the heck out of it (super insulation, solar panels, green house, put it over a basement etc).

I really want rabbits, chickens, maybe goats. I definitely need a fainting goat or two for my own amusement. If I follow my plans of planting an orchard, I'll need some cows to keep it trimmed, which means meat and milk. And you can bet your boots my dogs will helping me work the land.

I don't like people too much, and living in the city makes me miss the country, so I don't think it'll be a hard transition as long as I have books.

Thats the good thing about the US. Houses are so cheap. If I lived there I could buy one for every season.

I own my own house, too, but it's for sale and I'm moving into a rental (yay divorce!). But I'm also going back to school to become a HS English teacher.

I used to run a fairly successful blog about living green on a budget, but it was registered in my ex's name and I'm not allowed to continue it on my own. Yay for petty crazy people.

Had I been keeping this house, I was planning on raising my own chickens. It's only on half an acre, but that's more than enough to set up a nice chicken coop.

There's no way to settle that debate. Nothing says they HAVE to grandfather them in. When bans happen in cities, they can choose to grandfather them in...or not to.

Normally when they do a nation wide breed ban they don't make people get rid of the dogs all at once. It normally starts with mandatory spay/neuter on the breed and needing certain permits. Then after years and years they hope to cull out the breed.

BSL is very unamerican and pit bulls are a very american breed. I think people would have an absolute shit fit. I refuse to live in a place with BSL because I think its just ridiculous.

There is no way to settle this argument. It is a 50/50 toss up. In a city near here they started murdering Pit Bulls like Nazis did to the jews. In other places they've grandfathered them in.

I believe in the UK existing Pit Bulls were grandfathered, but they had to be spayed/neutered. so in about 10 years the breed would die out. (Could be wrong on that, didn't research, that is just what I was told)

So in summary... The argument is stupid because there is no way possible of knowing how politicians would write the laws. It just depends on the politician and how much propaganda he could generate to support his position.

No. **IF** they did a nationwide BSL without a grandfather clause, the owners would throw a fit. The government would ignore them. The dogs would die. Most of society would support the government's action due to the mass propaganda they'd be indoctrinated with.

If you look at history, you'd see this to be true. Examples: Japanese American internment camps, Guantanamo Bay, Mass execution of Jews during Nazi Germany, Salem Witch Trials, English Inquisition, etc...

The government does, what the government wants. All it needs is enough power and propaganda to fuel its cause.

They'd put out propaganda about how these Pitbulls are TERRORISTS who are randomly attacking children without provocation and ruining the American way of life.

To answer the OP it will never happen. Not the whole country by federal order anyways. Individual states, maybe.

In a few places where the breed is banned without grandfathering there have been successful legal challenges based on the Constitution depriving a Pit Bull owner of property without due process. Another reason why we need to keep dogs listed legally as property and us as owers and not become their "guardians".
