Oh! I see puppyhood as the time where I'm molding my perfect dog...
For some reason all the dogs I've gotten as adults had things I didn't like- only the ones I've raised from pups I am truly happy with.
I don't even mind housebreaking! But we run a tight ship... my bandog pups are essentially housebroken before they leave me, they can't hold it, but they know what they are supposed to do. I rarely had accidents, almost never. And I love starting obedience, working it into every part of the day...
Ahhh.... to have a puppy again.

I'm actually not a big fan of puppies. I see then as an annoying stage to be endured in the lead up to getting a dog!
I thought I would feel that way; when Veronica the puppy was driving me insane with her brattiness!

Now that she's almost 4, and things are starting to really come together...I miss the bratty puppy. And Man, she could be fresh!

To the OP: how about a flirt pole and a puppy kong (not sure if those are included in the toys you have) - two great options to burn puppy energy & satisfy the urge to chew/keep pup occupied; did you get the canine toothpaste to go with the brush (do you have a finger brush, may need to start out with that for a puppy), how bout a regular brush? What about a clicker? Never know when a long line could come in handy (25 - 50 feet), pads for the crate/blankets (puppies love to snuggle), stuffies? (puppies love to snuggle; until some of them start eating the stuffies then that becomes a problem ), do you need any baby gates to block off certain areas of the house? May as well get some "urine be gone" cleaner (there'll be at least a handful of accidents no matter how vigilent you are)...

happy nesting; I'm jealous!!

Me too. I also like getting adult dogs because I know what the final product is. No gamble there.

We had this 3 y/o dog at work once. Really attached himself to me and would rather stay at the shelter by my side then go on a walk with someone else. Checked in with me before approaching strange people. Perfect on his halti and would do whatever I asked of him. Feisty with other dogs sometimes, but I don't mind that. The only thing I'm not sure about was if I could get him excited enough to do some sort of sport (weight pull, fly ball, etc.) I do think he would have easily passed a CGC with me and I could have turned him into a therapy dog real quick - he loved kids. Should have been my dog, but I can't yet.

But back to the original post. Congratulations on the puppy and I hope you are planning on posting pictures! I think you will need some clothes for the pup just to make you laugh when you're feeling blue

I see puppies like I see kids. I will hold and love your young ones and be glad to hand them back! Maybe its because I am getting older (34) or because I haven't the money to replace the rare decent stuff I get, but I do not miss the puppy stage at all. Don't miss my kids being babies, either.

I have to agree that the pup stage is to be endured with a guiding hand and a sense of humor until the pup grows into the dog you wanted.

We are getting a 3rd "bully breed" dog. Hubby wants a Staffordshire Bull Terrier so bad he can taste it. I don't much care about breed as I got to choose the other two, but I do want another bully type. If I had my way I would get a retired or returned SBT over 1 year old from a breeder, but all I can find in the adults available is mixes or $3000.00 dogs that are being shown and bred. Surprisingly hard to find a reasonably priced adult pet type pure SBT,lol. So, I am waiting til the right thing comes along and mentally preparing myself in case that right thing is a pup. This involves much repeating of "They will grow out of it!"

Typical husband...wants another baby because he knows I will be the one doing the primary caregiving!

Got the puppy kong!! ...and the finger brush, tooth paste, longe line (for horses), and the cleaner, and a chew-proof bed for the kennel...

Not sure how I feel about flirt poles in relation to physical safety-really do not want a patella issue!

What's a stuffie??

DEFINITELY need a baby gate! Holy crap...I forgot the baby gate...

PS: Puppies born last night/this morning!!!!!! I originally asked for a girl, but last week I changed my mind that I might prefer a boy instead and didn't tell the breeder yet- thought I'd see what the pups were like. Well, I was 5th in line for a girl and there were only 4 girls born so it was destined, I will have a bouncing, nipping, whining, adorable, fuzzy BOY!!!
YAY!
The colors are black/seal and brindle with good markings... I don't have pics yet

9 week count down!!!! Only 1,512 hours to go!

Yea the puppies are born! Can't wait to see pictures!!

A stuffie is just a stuffed animal for dogs; Veronica loved snuggling with them when she was a wee tot.

Are you sure you're thinking flirt pole and not spring pole? A flirt pole is just basically a toy on a stick that you play a sort of chase it game with...you can keep it pretty sedate for the pups.

Most people make their own; but I have no such skills so...:

Ohhhh yeah...oookay....gonna have to get some stuffed animals... I can't believe how cute that is!!!

Yeah, I'm thinking flirt pole. Hard turns can really cause a big issue with knees..I may think about it a bit more though

I intend to use swimming and running to get the energy out :-)

oh, heck yeah! and my pup's not even CONCEIVED yet!! Her dam, Sapphire, is supposed to go into heat in the next month or so.. and at that point, I have to make sure I've got the $400-500 deposit, and then another $300-600 when she's 8-10 weeks! Then, I'm still undecided about cropping her ears, though I have a vet picked out already.

I even have a puppy collar hanging on my rear-view mirror for her. lol.

It honestly wasn't half as bad waiting for my daughter, at least I knew when she was coming! I should have this pup for my b-day, which is the same as my daughter's b-day. (haha) My fiance said this pup's my present for the next 5 years, for every holiday. I told him he's still got my mother's day present this sunday.

Here are pics of the parents, and links to their pedigrees.

Good luck in your wait!!

Good luck with everyone waiting
We purchased Grimmies from a great breeder as a puppy, and I wouldn't trade his puppyhood (which he is still going through at 16 mths old!) for the world Then again....he was a great puppy - haha.

I'm in the same boat... to crop, or not to crop- THAT is the question.
Your dam and sire are just GORGEOUS btw- I love red females.

Ohhh lawdy- the breeder posted pics. Now I'm dying. Just dying. There's a black brindle that I'm crossing my fingers for! But I'm really just looking for personality....keep tellin myself that...

haha.. I find her coloring very intriguing.. red with a blue nose. I know, If my pup is similar, that I'd be inundated with idiots spewing red line and blue nose when referring to her. Ya know; trying to sound educated while failing miserably. lol

Wellllllllllllll.....I was going to save the news until he was home with me, but I think I'll probably be too busy to figure out how to take pics and put them on my computer and everything when he gets here.

So, without further adieu, I present to you....Moto

top of pic

He was my first pic from day one, literally. In his aptitude test, he turned out mostly 4's which means he'll probably be a good, lower-energy, family dog. In the structural evaluation, he made show quality, but wasn't the top 2, so he's performance quality.

I've been waiting about a year and four months for this...and he comes home on Friday. It's surreal.
