Default Brandon Fouche - What's Your Take
I was watching American Pit Bull and was astonished by the amount of misinformation this person was spewing. At one point he stated that the pitbull has over 3000 psi in their biting capabilities and the Rott had 1000.

it's horrible when people that have the ear of thousands talk like their statements are fact when indeed they're nothing but urban legend...

Maybe I'm wrong. Can someone point me to the study that proves bite pressure per breed?

Isn't that the "trainer" who hit some womans dog, or was that someone else?
I could be wrong.

3,000 psi?! WTF? That's insane! [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADDxe24ud90&feature=youtube_gdata"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADDxe24ud90&feature=youtube_gdata[/ame] I love this video An American Alligator has a bite of 3,000 psi... Sry, but no matter how cool you think pitbulls are, even a moron knows which will do more damage in a single bite. If I had to choose, I'd take a pit over a gator any day! And if a gator bites you, no break stick in the world will save whatever was bitten. Eather gator lets go, or rips it OFF.

Tests that have been done comparing the bite pressure of several
breeds showed pressure PSI (per square inch) to be considerably lower
than some wild estimates that have been made. Testing has shown that
the domestic dog averages about 320 lbs of pressure per square inch.
Recently Dr. Brady Barr of National Geographic conducted a comparative
test between a Pit Bull, a Rottweiler, and a German Shepherd. The Pit
Bull had the LOWEST PSI OF THE THREE.

The highest pressure recorded from the Pit Bull was 235 lbs PSI. The
highest from the GSD was 238, and the highest from the Rott was 328.
Dr. Barr states that as far as he knows, the PSI tested in the Rott is the
highest on record for any domestic canine.

From http://www.realpitbull.com/myths.html

THREE THOUSAND PSI sounds way cooler though.

Playing Devil's Advocate, I could argue that the Pit used in the bite pressure comparison wasn't performing up to breed potential because he/she hadn't been conditioned and exercised working the jaw muscles. However, even assuming the dog was worked and exercised I doubt it would come close to 1k psi.

I'm not an expert about buliding up dog muscles. But I do know that those dogs have VERY well worked and developed bite muscles. That's the idea. Bite, hold on, apphrehend the target. They see it as a fun game though. It takes years to get a dog trained like that. Takes a special kind of dog too. Not all dogs can safely be taught this. My guess is that their jaw muscles are a very good judge of a pitbulls abilities. It's not like that dog was just some house pet.

But 3,000 psi is completely insane...
